Jeff had not won a single minute. He was being blodied and pounded around the ring. He was abroad. He had hit Calzaghe several times only to hear Joe say "he can't hit for ****". Should he have quit? Discuss.:hat
calzaghe punches aint s*** margo was on cotto like a leech and was pounding him thats why he quit and plus he was tired... cotto doesnt need to quit because he lost a fight ppl here make me laugh nor is he bum, he is still a great fighter you win some u lose some!
Well for one thing, Cotto didn't really quit, his corner stopped the fight. On the other hand , considering Lacy's decline since the Calzaghe fight, perhaps his corner should have thrown in the towel around the 9th, when it was obviousthere was nothing he could do. The big difference is that Cotto was competitive, actually winning at first, but Lacy didn't win even one round. Am I wrong in assuming that the purpose of this thread in the first place was to knock Cotto?
Firstly Lacy kept trying to land something big , Cotto had landed plenty big shots it was simply the case that Margo didn't care. It must be demoralising as hell to hit a guy with your best shots and he just keeps punching back at you without the slightest pause. Also look at the state of Cottos face and look at the state of Lacys , Cotto took a worse beating. My answering this thread does not mean I agree with Cotto being called a quitter that was a f**king war and he gave everything he had.
two diffirent fights two diffirent outcomes two diffirent weight classes.. actually there's nothing these two fights have in common. but I think the referee should've stopped the fight between calzaghe and lacy.. way to onesided.. !
I think Calzaghe could have taken Lacy out at any point - he just didn't want to. He wanted to punish Lacy for the full 12.
true, but a chin is a chin at any weight, can't turn it into a beefcake chin or something. and JC can obviously hit harder than Margarito, so fair to say Lacy took the bigger beating, literally and figuratively. At least Cotto was ahead in the first half.
Honestly, Jeff was never ever gonna quit. That wasn't the problem. The problem was Jeff's corner was full of a bunch of ****ing douche bags who knew Jeff wasn't going to win and still lets him get his ass beat. Calzaghe is my favorite fighter, but even still, that night was hard to watch and I felt so uneasy and disgusted because no man should get beat like that. Cotto had his will to continue beaten out of him. I don' think he could continue without risking danger so his corner did the responsible thing and threw in the towel. Cotto certainly though had his fill of Margarito and didn't want anymore.
