Why did Cotto quit and Jeff Lacy didn't?

Im thinking - call me stupid - but Cotto wanted to win that fight but it got to a point he couldnt. Dont think he is a quitter and it was one of the best fights I have seen in a long time.

Lacey was kind of caught in a bad situation cos the punches wernt bombs just a continual barrage - I dont know what the research says on the effects of continual lighter punches as opposed to receiving a few bombs but it kind of meant he could stand up and take it.

For me the idea is two people closely matched testing their skills to see who is best. I admire a lot of boxer's 'heart' and 'spirit' but i do not want to see people ruined.

I think a lot of the problem is the money the boxers get and the cost for ppv events - people want to see blood and someone brutally finished - and that kind of becomes the focus of the 'sport' - which sucks for Calzaghe a bit because his hands wont let him get those brutal finishes anymore so he has to rely on skill and points.

I know a lot of talk that the JC Manfredo fight was stopped early but it was apparent it was a huge mismatch and the only way Manfredo could win was if Joe broke both his hands on him.

boxing is a 'sport' not a life and death war

Another BS thread to question Cotto's manhood. WTF is the point with these Poodles?

That is a good point, Laceys corner really should have thrown in the towel to protect their fighter. Sure he made it all 12 rounds but at what cost?

Lacy's toughness ruined his career. Thats where being a stubborn warrior got him, though really you can only applaud him, but you can abuse his corner endlessly.

That calzaghe fight did not ruin his career, the torn rotator cuff in his next fight did though.

I think it was safe to say at that stage in the fight Cotto was going to get stopped either way, he took twn Knees, meaning he was trying to get through the round, its just everytime he stood back up Tony gave it to him some more.
I dont blame him he earned his paycheck stop raggin on the man he just took a beating from the man every top welter weight stayed clear of, and Miguel was basicly the sacrificial lamb that provided the world with a clear picture as to why nobody wants to fight Margarito.

Then who in the hell is Joshua Clottey and Paul Williams. Cut the crap people have fought competitively against Margarito. He is not a unstoppable machine.

Last time I checked Clottey lost to Margarito, Williams won sure nobody is doubting that, but lets be straight Williams is a BIG welter, Margarito is a big welter as it is, but Williams dwarfs Tony.
We know your pissed off its obvious, but like I said all the elite avoided the man you cant change that fact.
Clottey Lost to the man so why are you bringing him up? He has never been stopped, therefor he is an un stoppable machine and in order to beat him you will have to be willing to go through hell to get there.

I didn't say all of them won, I said the fought competitively and Clottey did it with one hand.

Margarito hasn't been avoided as much as people try to make it out. A lot of top welters have fought him.

mental scars are a lot harder to repair than physical ones.

Mental scars don't take away physical power and muscle tension.

Joe slapped him to a UD decision, so what, the guy wasn't broken from that fight. It is his injury that took his power and kept him out of the ring. He hasn't had power since his shoulder injury, imho.

Cotto did not take a worse beating, it's obvious he bruises and cuts worse, but Lacy took a career ending beating that has him slurring words as of today.
