I had it a draw when I rewatched last week. It could have really gone either way.

I can't explain that. Lennox would've actually trained for a rematch and brutally KO'd Vitali anyway.

:good sounds like Duran. Another true story................

A good friend of mine was a great fighter in the 70's. His name is
Ruben Navarro who fought for the lightweight title a couple of times and was one of the great great defensive fighters ever. One day at the Main Street gym in Los Angeles Ruben was working out and Duran stopped in with his entourage as pompous as ever and walked over to Ruben and said "you're Ruben Navarro. I've heard of you. How about sparring a few rounds with me?"
Ruben of course accepted. At the beginning of the first round Duran came out throwing heavy leather and Ruben knew immediately Duran was going to show off for his entouragel. For 4 rounds Duran barely laid a glove on ruben. Duran left the ring, threw off his gloves and stormed into the showers. Ruben waited for him and when Duran came out Ruben said "i want you to know it wqs a great honor to be in the same ring with you today. You are the greatest fighter in the world and I will never forget today." Duran went away mumbling to himself.
A year later Duran beat Buchanan for the title and after the fight a reporter asked Duran "Is Buchanan the best fighter you were ever in the ring with?"
and Duran looked at the reporter and said ....
"No, ruben Navarro was the greatest fighter I was ever in the ring with."
When I heard about this I called Ruben immediately and told him what Duran had said. There was silence. i said "Ruben, Ruben did you here me?" Again no response. I knew. I hung up.

One of our ESB members John Garfield has the greatest Duran story of all.
If you know John e-mail him and see if he will post it again. He will know which one.

This is one of a couple of rematches the sport needed, yet never happened. Both Trinidad and Delahoya are at fault for not getting it done. Trinidad got a gift from the judges and I think he probably knew that. Oscar was robbed in this fight and the general consensus says he won by keeping his feet moving, staying away from Tito's power and beating him to the punch. Maybe this all came back to bite Oscar in the ass because he avoided rematches with Quartey and Whitaker who felt they were robbed of the decision. Ike and Pernell clearly deserved rematches based on the fact that Oscar apparently wasn't satisfied with his first win against a less competitive Julio Cesar Chavez. How can a true champion be satisfied with his performances against Quartey and Whitaker knowing the decisions were contested by many. Felix Sturm never got a rematch and the decision they gave Delahoya in that fight was one of the worst since Lewis-Holyfield I.

The reason it never happened is because of star power De La Hoya was still gonna call the shots on how much Trinidad made. Trinidad didn't like that and wanted more than DLH was gonna pay. While in negotiations Trinidad went up in weight. They have been seperated by timing and weight ever since. Even now, Trinidad is at ****en 170 and De La is going to 147. Just ain't gonna happen. Even if they refought, assuming Oscar wins next fight and so does Trinidad, Oscar would still dictate Trinidad's earnings. I don't think Trinidad would like that very much. This is the same reason De la Hoya-Mosley 3 did not happen. Mosley turned down a ten million dollar fight to loose to Winky his next fight for much much less.

Don't listen to Prescott. Even before I became a member of ESB I knew Prescott by name because of his insane rantings. He is so hung up on DLH and Trinidad, but strangely, psychotically, knows nothing of either fighter.

Tito refused to give Oscar a rematch. Oscar offed him a huge amount of money, but Tito lost the first fight and he knows it. Don King's judges saved Tito's ass.

Because Quartey lost first part of fight, won the middle rounds, and lost last two rounds, the twelfth being a TKO that did not happpen because ref. made a dangerous decision to let the beating go on. The knockdown in the twelfth and the pummeling equalled the scoring and sent DLH one point over needed for the victory. No rematch needed accept for Quartey fans. Also, must remember, how fast DLH was being pushed in his carreer for the big fights. Quartey and Carr were just precursors to the Trinidad fight. Whitaker, I give you that. But it was a boring fight at the time as the commentators said during the fight. Like with PBF a rematch would be just as boring.

Floyd himself said that Oscar won against Tito. Oscar used a Floyd style of boxing against Tito. Of course, Floyd belives Oscar won.

The biggest fights occur during negociations. What happens in the ring is rather tame in comparision. Most of the squabbles are over money, but fights can not be made for a variety of reasons. They argue about gloves, weight, ring size, date, location etc. DLH and Trinidad seemed to have a problem with just about everything.

Because Trinidad always had an excuse not to give DLH the chance
to beat him. Trinidad had the chance to make at least 20 millions for a rematch with DLH but
he prefered to fight Hopkins for less than half of this amount.
