Duran vs Leonard I was a great fun fight but Duran vs Leonard II was not. I still don't know the reason why Duran quit fighting and walked away from Leonard like that. Was Leonard embarrassing him or what?

He just knew that, since Leonard was the bigger, stronger, younger, faster man now fighting a disciplined fight, he had no chance whatsoever.

Well.....I think one of the reasons was Leonard changed his gameplan in the rematch. He boxed Duran a lot and he didn't fight toe to toe against Duran. Leonard made Duran frustrate in the second fight.

But it was not the reason for Duran to quit and walked away from the ring like that.

Partying and becoming a fat arse between camps put the nail in the coffin on his winning. Add in Srl being a damn good fighter and electing to box to his strengths and it was a recipe for disaster. Srl even mentions that he saw how Duran was acting between fights ...

He was like 200 pounds when he agreed for the rematch, he had a horrible camp. Basically what we call today a fat camp. It was either get the living **** kicked out of you and have possible permanent damage, or swallow your pride and quit. The guilt he probably has to live with for quitting like that must be brutal for a machismo type guy.

Arcel wanted to postpone the fight because he knew what kind of shape he was in, but the sanctioning body said they'd strip him of the title. He should have called their bluff. Duran's manager was quoted as saying," well if he loses we'll always have a third fight for more money". You're right about Leonard,, his team had people watching Duran and he was the King of the world for months staying drunk and partying. In a sense Duran had accomplished everything possible, he's had beaten Sugar Ray the golden boy and Roberto was considered the best fighter in the world and an all time great. After this fight, his loss to Benitez and the Kirkland Laing debacle KO magazine had the best line on Duran,,," When the lion is not hungry ,he will not hunt"

That 2nd fight was competitive aswell but Duran would have lost on points.

In a way he took the shine of Rays victory like telling to stand and fight and then quiting because Ray did not oblidge.

All the kids in the General Forum back then complained to him about not having anything to talk about.

Uh, yes, because he, you know, won the first one. Got into Leonard's head.

Really, do you have any idea what you are posting about?
