    Bingo.

Well put, but a lot of Duran's most fervent fans jut seem invested in clinging to the myths that they've believed for decades at this point, facts and logic be damned.

This is an excellent post, @Saintpat and I think a lot of us want to believe it's not true...when most of the time it probably is.

And I believe this assertion is true of practically any kind of competition. We all do what we have to in order to get ahead. That's the ruthlessness of applied ambition imo.

No it isn't. Let me quote myself...."Lets not make winning out to be a loss."

They are vastly different. You are talking about Duran while i am talking about Leonard.

Who is accusing Duran not redeeming himself? Certainly not me. It's commonly accepted that he redeemed himself. The rare peep might disagree but they'd be in the vast minority. You are preaching to the choir on this one. I've never ever said other.

Of course he was covered in no small amount of shame when it actually happened. This is a no-brainer.

Plenty of great fighters aren't everyone's cup of tea tho.

You actually stated "Leonard didn't cover himself in glory either." For tens of thousands of people and more he absolutely covered himself in glory, just not for you personally.

All of us can speculate and theorize all we want. But quite frankly, none of us will ever know.

I dont recall saying he waited 3 months. At the same time some Leonard apologists say Duran had 6 months to prepare between fights. That is a myth.

Logic that doesn't hold water. If Ray Leonard wasn't on camera gloating about what your minimizing maybe even you could start to believe it. Keep trying.

I'm taking about his performance in the ring. The American fans, media would cover him in glory because he did win the fight. It would be a stretch to saying he was fighting a great fight. Truth be told as listless as Duran was Ray Leonard wasnt doing much fighting either.

After the first fight Leonard wasn't out to make Joe Bloggs watching on satisfied he was out to win and in reality fought the perfect tactical fight with that goal in mind all the way down to the eventual taunting.

Leonard fought a "great fight" tactically and the proof is in the pudding when you look at the end result - Duran quitting and an easy victory. It was a great means to an end.

Sure going after Duran more would have made Duran fans/Leonard haters far more happy because no matter what supposed shape he was in going after him invites potential trouble. He's that kind of fighter.

It may all be speculation, Clinton, but what is not speculation is that Duran ate a whole chicken before the Leonard fight. You try out eating a whole chicken then even make it to the ring. But nobody ever gives him credit for that part. Just the part where he couldn't go on. Digestively. It's like, if I got stabbed it the stomack before work this morning and I walked all the way to Arthur Treacher's anyways, then I go off n call off work half way through plating up some hush puppies then why come nobody gives me credit for coming in that morning anyway and having the drive and the hunger and the competitive spirit to just have been there? I showed up. I started doing stuff. But I was gonna bleed to death. That is not boxing. That is x-sanguination. Which is the worstest ever nation to live in. Cuz you don't live in it long. You die.

When I was a kid, there was a pop singer named Madonna from Argentina and she went on a tour called the blonde ambition tour. I did not know what that meant, what she called it. Blonde, I get, but ambition? I didn't know what the word symbolized. And then I looked it up. And lo and behold, I still did not know what that meant. What was blonde about it? Was she just tryna be blonde? She was already blonde! She dye her roots? I don't know. But when she did that tour she sang her damn heart out and danced and was there for all the world to see. It was str8 up gangsta pron. But it was ambitious. Now why can't she be like Duran? Because she couldn't box. But then people gave her more damn credit (and respect to her, no hate) then they even gave Duran though!

Leonard got a 24 ft ring. Name 3 fights ever with a ring that big. It was a football field for a trackmeet. The best part of the documentary is Duran And Leonard in the ring. Ray looks scared still that Roberto will attack him.
