Why did Floyd never fight slick boxers?

    I've been watching his fights back (between 96-17) & looking at his resume, I have noticed a vast shortage of slick fighters on it. He would generally fight C or B level flat-footed, latin american fighters. Canelo often gets slack for not fighting slick fighters, but he has fought more of them than Floyd ever has. He fought Trout, Lara & Mayweather (a slick fighter himself), & is now going to fight Saunders.The only one I can think of that Mayweather fought is Judah, & he already had 3 or 4 loses, & was coming off a lose to Baldomir when he fought Floyd. Why do you think he never fought any top slick fighters in his time? Do you think any slick fighters in that time period would have beaten him?

    Because in this day and age there are no slick fighters, nobody fights enough to learn it.

    Who would you say were the last of the slicksters, Grey? I think you're right, by the way. Interested to see how you define it and who you think were among the most recent top level components of the art.

    What slick fighters did he share a division with and not fight?

    Only one I can think of is Lara, and absolutely no one was calling for that fight at the time, so I don't blame Floyd at all for that one.

    I don't know, but it has been a long time. Being slick took a beating when they changed the gloves and it became much harder to grab and turn an opponent. It took a beating when guys quit having 80 fights and when going rounds and learning meant that you had been exposed.
    A slick guy knows how to take you out of your rhythm to the extent that he let's you do what you thought you wanted to do and makes it the most frustrating night of your life.

    He called Augustus his toughest opponent in his entire career.
    He had trouble with Paul Spadafora in sparring.

    Name some fighters that are slick that he didn't fight. Sounds like you are just trying to find something to criticize

    - Corey Spinks
    -Joshua Clottey
    - Devon Alexander
    - Amir Khan
    - Paulie Malinaggi
    - Timothy Bradley
    - Chris Algeri

    Corley & Pac were not slick. Canelo is only slick against flat-footed, come forward fighters. I agree with Augustus, Mitchell & Judah (who I mentioned already), but none of these guys were elite fighters.
