Foreman got chased out of town when back-to-back weeks had controversial decisions, one was DLH-Mosley II, the other Byrd-Oquendo. Big George told it like he saw it and was unjustly penalized and made into a scapegoat. It was bull****! "Officially", he left for other reasons, but in reality, he was forced out.
I agree, though I'm not too big of a fan of RJJ, you remember when he said Wlad will never become champ again with a weak chin, and also went on to say he should retire, this was said after the Brewster fight, little did he know 2 years to almost the day, Wlad became champ again. I wish he was right, but he was dead wrong in his opinion/analysis.
You Know I remember Jones was asked by a reporter "So are you looking forward to a fight with Tito" And Jones replied "NO" when asked why not he said "If they wanted to fight me then they never would have made the fight with Hopkins, Felix cant beat Bernard, no one can beat Bernard but me. Its going to be a easy fight" I think that Jones was the only person that was in the boxing media that said that. Jones was pretty good, maybe the best color guy in boxing that isnt named Al Berstein.
Another good Foreman moment was when Wlad got stopped by Sanders. Merchant: This is a shock, to the boxing world. Foreman: I think it's a shock to your world Larry. The boxing world is not that surprised.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/boxing/2003-12-04-klitschko-johnson_x.htm Foreman leaving HBO: George Foreman, the two-time heavyweight champ turned broadcaster, calls his last fight for HBO on Saturday night after 12 years working alongside partners Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant. Foreman's contract expires at the end of the year. He and HBO were negotiating a new deal to scale back the number of shows he did, but they could not agree on terms. "George Foreman is a special person. ... His contributions to HBO Sports have been enormous," HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg said in a statement. "While it appears that George's plans do not include working as a boxing commentator any longer, the door is always open for him to be involved with the HBO Sports family in any capacity he would like to pursue." Merchant and Lampley each signed four-year extensions in June that run through 2007.
Foreman and Merchant didn't get along, and were always jabbing at each other on the Air, someone had to go and it was big George, it's ok i'll take Lennox over Foreman and Roy anytime, everything worked out, i just wish HBO would hire Atlas, and get rid of bug eyed Kellerman..
That was hilarious. I also love the time he said "Larry you don't know boxing you just commentate" :rofl
I agree with part of your post, Lennox isnt that good of a commentator, his analysis consists of one and two words answers, like "Definitely", "I agree Larry", etc... He rarely has a good story or has any good input to give while the fights happening, besides the man has trouble pronouncing words bigger than 10 letters, I got nothing against him, he was great fighter and seems to have a good personality, but the guy is not good behind a mic. Kellerman should be filling Merchants shot glass, his commentating sucks, and he looks like Bart Simpson. The fact that he cant give an interview with a black fighter without giggling and nuthugging like a little *****, is not what I want to see in an interview, I really do hope HBO fires Kellerman and brings back Merchant full-time.
Personally im glad hes gone... hes a waste of a spot imo. RJJ is the best there is period, hell CHRIS BYRD isnt bad eather... better then foreman. I think it should be Jim, Max, and RJJ.... with merchant as a permanent guest
Kellerman should be filling Larry's shot glass, good one:yep Yea i feel the same way about Max and i don't care for him, everytime i see him he looks like he's had about 9 cups of coffee dude is to hyper, but i doubt we will see Larry back, sad but true he's 76, 77 years old and the travelling, etc may be taking it's toll it's possible HBO may have asked him to retire, and step down:huh I wish HBO would show Max the door and hire Atlas..
