sign with German promoters? I woudl think that staying in america would have been a great option for them due to teh cuban population in miami. I mean, why the hell didnt american promoters sign them? Solis and Gamboa are going to be stars!! any info is appreciated
It's easier to establish asylum in Germany than in the US. The US probably would have sent them back to Cuba if they went directly to the US first, but they needed to sign with someone to help them wade through the required paperwork.
If they had gone to florida there is a law that once they touch land the USA can't send them back to cuba, that why all cubans go to Florida first, get papers and then move to were ever they want to (including my family lol)
They signed with German promoters because they were the first ones to approche them and give them a ligit and good offer right away, plus they signed with a german promotion company but as you see they are already fighting in the US, unlike many big starts in Europe that have never fought in the USA, Ohner himself knows that its better to make their carrers in the USA both for him as a manager and for the fighters. Barthelemy will fight this Friday in Miami again, and Gamboa is now currently training in Los Angeles... so there you go.
That's not true. Plenty of people get sent back. Might have been the case 10 or 20 years ago, not so today.
yeah, was'nt that the case with elian gonzales? anyway i'm sure those cubans are'nt staying with their current promoter for long. once the number of fights in their contracts (or whatever arrangement) are up, some one like oscar, arum or other bigname american promoters will be rushing for their signatures, because of their obvious potential. thats probably why gamboa is dispatching people left and right, to get the contracted # of fights done with:yep. with the cuban following they have in the states + the big money, they'll probably become US based in the neat future.
. No buddy im telling you it is, My family did this, and a bunch of my friends have aswell, one of my friend did this about 3 months ago, and also Gamboa's family aswell like 2 months ago, and last week Joel Casamyor family was able to do it aswell.
Thats true, and the case with Elian Gonzales was that his guardian was his father in cuba, and he was not allowed to stay because his mother died in the sea. (thats one of a kind case)
Not going to happen anytime soon - they are bound to arena promotion till mid of 2010...not bound on the number of bouts...and that's good, so they will still have some fights in Germany...btw, there is also a large Cuban community here, especially in Hamburg and Berlin...I met them and they are always surrounded by 20-30 Cubans...
