Only a fool would think that 168 was tougher than 160 or 175 historically. 168 was a newbie division for fighters not good enough to fight in the more significant divisions around. lord knows why fighters wasted their time their unless there were not ready to make the jump to the Big boys @ 175. to answer your question about Johnson anyone who was around at the time knows he was called the road warrior and having fought on the road so much he was on the wrong side of many controversial or "close" decisions.

Because 168 is an Epic division. Oddly enough, Joe Cal is the GOAT there. Makes you rethink all this prime b-hop, and Jones nonsense

    I recall that also.
Reid just blew hot and cold. Compare how he performed when beating Pretaurious or Nardiello etc and then look at how he performed against Malinga and Branco. After he lost to Calzaghe I never really saw him perform like he used to again even when looking unfortunate to many against Ottke and beating undefeated B Magee. The Reid that was fighting Wharton looked a different fighter
    What stats?

    These points:-

    - Richie Woodhall was beaten by Keith Holmes in a MW championship fight, but at SMW became world champion.

    - Mauro Galvano only made it as far as Italian MW champ, but at SMW was world champion.

    - Thulani Malinga became national MW champ, but at SMW was world champion.

    - Glen Catley held some smaller titles at MW, but at SMW was world champion.

    - Dingaan Thobela went from LW to SMW, lost all his fights at the MW limit, but won the WBC SMW title.

    - Dave Hilton Jr was Canadian MW champion, but at SMW was world champion.

    - Cristian Sanavia got beaten by Morrade Hakkar in a European MW title fight, but at SMW Cristian Sanavia was World Champion.

    - Chong-Pal Park held some minor title at MW, but at SMW was a world champion

    - Fulgencio Obelmejias came up short twice against Marvin Hagler for the MW championship, but at SMW became a world champion.

    - In-Chul Baek like his fellow Korean Chong, held some minor title at MW, but at SMW was a World Champion

    - Tiozzo was a European champ at MW, but at SMW was a World Champion

    - Víctor Córdoba was a national level operator at MW but at SMW was a world champion

    - Anthony Mundine was a World Champion at SMW, but when going down to MW couldn't find the same success and lost MW championship fights.

    - Eubank, Benn, Collins were also a lot more formidable at SMW than they were at MW.
    -----------------------------------------------------

I think this has more to do with the SMW division being a new division at the time, while the MW division had been established for decades. Now the tide seems to be turning as the SMW division has its foundations set firm with the likes of Eubank, Benn, RJJ, Calzaghe, and now Ward representing the division well.

The LHW division has created such greats as Evander, Qawi, Mohammad, Spinx and hill during the existence of SMW division that shits all over the SMW. Most of the best fighters spent more time in either the MW or LHW division since its creation as well

    - Evander was a Cruiser. But on Playstation 2 Fight night round 3 developed by EA Sports I am aware he is playable as a LHW.

    - DMQ and EMM were early to mid 80 LHW's, the SMW division got fully established at the end of the 80's.

    - Spinks had moved up to HW before the SMW division got fully established.

These are the years of the first World title fights at SMW.
    WBC: 1988
    WBA: 1987
    IBF: 1984
    WBO: 1988

:think You mean Glen Johnson who was passed around SMW as a journeyman but at LHW became world champion?

A lot of those fights, he didn't lose.

Johnson was at the wrong end of a decision far too often, I'm actually surprised he stuck with the game the amount of times he got jobbed.

Jasper thinks the LHW division created Evander Holyfield :lol::lol::lol::rofl

Not only this, he has received just 254 profile views on esb in more than 6 years here as an esb punchbag :yep

His only saving grace is that he has more than treble the profile views of Queeny K who recently got an absolute mauling in the last Team Elite Superthread :happy

So, out of curiosity, exactly which fights was Glen robbed in at 168?

It's not fair to list one or two and then assume all close fights he lost were, because we've seen Glen lose close but fair fights where people later call it a robbery (like against Dawson).

Which ones was he flat-out robbed in? We should get a list going.

They can't answer that one because the truth is that Johnson didn't get robbed in his 168 fights, he simply found the competition too tough :yep

I'll give Johnson props for the performance he gave against Ottke though. To take Johnson to a close decision was arguably the performance of his career :deal
