Why did Groves bottle the fight with DeGale?

Its funny what fear does to a man like Groves.

When he was the hunter (when he chased Froch for the rematch) he did everything he possibly could to make Froch fight him and he enjoyed achieving his goal. Now (when most pundits are sure that GG has shown a decline in his powers) he has become the hunted, with Hearn & DeGale chasing him for a fight. Seems he doesnt like it when the tables are turned on him.

But in keeping with his self-ascribed status as the "Cleverest man in the world" he uses his interview with El Big Bear(Of IFL TV) to tell us all how clever he is, how he has shown Eddie Hearn whos boss by not submitting to his requests to fight DeGale.

Maybe there are people out there who believe everything Groves says. But its clear to me that GG himself is struggling to believe the lies he is telling. Groves always stated that he wants the "quickest" route to a world title, but when he is being offered a quick route to a world title against someone he has already beaten for a minimum of £2.5 million he says no thank you, I would rather wait in line for a title.

So for the first time in Groves career he is running from a challenge. What im left wondering is, is he scared of fighting DeGale because Groves is aware that his form has nose dived whilst DeGale has risen? Or is it simply a case of Groves deciding he stands a much better chance of beating Anthony Dirrell than DeGale?

U need to understand Hearn is just not going to offer Groves a shot at the IBF title then let him arrange his own fights if he won. I would be stunned if Hearn did not put plenty of clauses in the contract.

I dont know the ins and outs but in a ideal world Groves and Degale would fight for the IBF title

    £2.5 million !!!
Groves should say thanks where do i sign...he and DeGale are both decent fighters but no more than that.
There are better fighters who never earned anywhere near that in a whole career.

He has already fought him and beat him. More than once apparently. He'll probably fight him again in the future on his terms if he feels like it.

I thought Groves explained himself very well in his last IFL interview. This is one of those topics where quite a few people have the usual May/Pac schoolgirl kind of 'tis /taint' bicker about who is afraid of who etc.

The reality, as always, is that this is a business and the boxers need to pick the path that makes the most sense to them. I believe Groves thinks exactly what he has said clearly - that he sees no rush to have the Degale fight just because Hearn has a ppv date. Plus he's probably right that more money could be made from the fight down the line.

Because this topic is quite ***gy, I should declare that although I was very pleased Groves won the fight last time, I had DeGale winning (a boring fight) on a recent rewatch.
