I don't get how the "experts" had Haney as a favorite and he was considered as a super elite boxer versus Loma but he struggled so much in the fight. He never got going, never hit Loma with a hard shot. Just targetted the body and a lot of it got blocked. And he got hit numerous times. Why did he struggle so much against the much smaller Loma?
Two elite, evenly matched fighters. And Loma had more gas in the tank than it appeared he might after Lopez. I also disagree that Haney was ineffective; he mostly had Loma on the run the first 6-7 rounds of the fight and landed some great body shots. Neither guy has anything to apologize for. It was a great show of skill.
Haney was the favorite mainly because he was younger, bigger and in his prime while many people thought Loma had slowed down and looked more vulnerable in his last fight now that he's 35. The fight itself turned out to be youth vs experience. I think Haney showed that he was able to fight Loma on even terms for 9 rounds. Loma showed more gas in the tank in the late rounds and that's where his experience benefitted him.
He didn’t struggle he was better. Only rounds 10 and 11 Lomachenko got on him but it’s a fight jesus.
Because Haney hates fighting up close and being put under pressure ? Haney is uncomfortable when forced in a dogfight because he likes range It's pretty obvious
Cause Loma is a better boxer that figured him out pretty quick. Thats why the second half of the fight he was getting schooled.
Yeah pretty much this. He did a decent enough job using the right hands to the body to prevent Loma coming in on the inside line but he needed more than that to keep Loma off him as Loma is so good at creating angles, especially on the outside line when landing his left hand. You have to be able to keep Loma on the outside to beat him, which Lopez was able to do with a jab, right hand counters and right hands to the body. Haney wasn't able to duplicate all the tactics Lopez did so found Loma getting inside and landing on him.
It wasn't so much that he was stylistically flummoxed as his opponent was just really good. It was a matter of skills more than style. And for Loma, it was an uphill struggle because Haney boasted a combination of size and considerable skill of his own. Neither had a very large stylistic advantage on paper nor in practice on the night - as evinced by the seesawing ring generalship.
Why did Usyk struggle so much with Fury's style? How was Fury able to hurt him when "objectively" AJ hits harder and couldn't. IT MAKES NO SENSE REEEEE
Haney is average at both at range and close lol...he kept eating the lefts from range vs a much smaller guy who had much less reach than him ...and was 11yrs older who started at featherweight lool Haney is nothing special...when he fights someone his own size with good boxing skills it's over for him.. Adam Azim at 140 , is 5"11 has longer reach more power more speed , better defence (unproven at world level) .. this guy will KO Haney inside 6rds mark my words..
