Probably not a big enough name, would have been a decent scrap like.

I think they tried rushing him through to title. So they preyed on what they felt was a shot Carl Thompson. I never got impression Haye ever had any interest in going down domestic route. He had sights clearly set on World titles.

Yeah thats probably why he went down the European route, get a better rating with the WBC.

He promised to fight Hobson but backed out feigning an ingrowing toenail when Mike and Jills Cornershop went bust and the money for Hayes purse fell though...

Hobson was ruined by the first Enzo fight.

They were lined up to fight but Hobson pulled out injured close to the fight and Haye fought Vincenzo Rossitto instead

That's why that fight was in Hobsons home town Huddersfield, and he was ringside.

IIRC they had a slight war of words for a while (may actually have been Haye and Hobsons trainer) and i think the fight may have fallen through once or twice prior to that as well.

In his interview after the Rossitto fight i remember Haye said something along the lines of

"Hobsons been fighting for X amount of years and hasn't got past domestic level, i've given up waiting for him to fight me, i want to progress in a hurry i'm moving up to European level" etc

In fairness to Haye, he beat Gurov for the EBU title in his very next fight

And Hobson got his two fights with Enzo, so it worked out ok for everyone

Hobson is very similar to Klitschkos, what do you think.

Yes i had tickets to go to the event and Hobson had to pull out with shingles i think??

The war of words was more between Hobsons trainer Chris Aston and Adam Booth.

Hobson vs Haye would have been a very good fight. I was gutted that Hobson got robbed vs Enzo.

Be real. Haye would have clapped him out inside four.

Probably but it would have been a good fight to see. Hobson was decent so a chance to see Haye at that time against him would have made a good fight.

It was signed a couple of times but injury prevented from ever happening.

If I recall properly, Haye was meant to fight Hobson the night he fought Delaney in Brentford and the night Hobson fought Enzo in their first fight...

I'll dig out my Boxing News collection from that time and let you know.
