I think Marciano had a couple of fights left by virtue of the fact that there were no strong contenders left. He would have been down to fighting the likes of Tommy Huricane Jackson.

Exactly, first of all, like Dempsey1238 correctly wrote yet, Marciano showed against Cockell and Moore that he´s a bit shot (a fight style like that doesn´t survive for long) and secondly, there weren´t any challenges for him anymore, there wasn´t a young, unbeaten fighter with a 25-0-0 (23 KO´s) record who would have looked good on Marciano´s record...

Maybe, but would would be the point in fighting say Jackson for a extral pay check?? Marciano was makeing the money in retirement off of the 0. He got interviews, commantary, his own TV show, movies ete because he was the unbeating champ. Whats relly the point in fighting some one like Jackson, yes the Rock would win. But he will be taking thsos extral hits. Sure he may have 1 or 2 fights. but why risk it when there is no worth wild contender out there.

If Marciano fights Jackson and Jackson stops the Rock in 5 rounds, you guys be saying the Roc should have retire after Moore lol.

You mean that kid who had just lost to Marty Marshal?

If Marciano had beaten up on Liston at this stage of his career he would have been tared and feathered, and rightly so.

    Marty who?

Liston was the greatest threat of that era. Liston's power was superiour to Marciano.

Marty Marshall, an 18-5-2 guy and outweighed by about 24 pounds, broke Liston's jaw and beat him SD8 in September 1954.

    That Marty Marshall.

Liston iced him in a rematch about a year later but Janitor's right, Liston as an opponent for Marciano at that time would not have been met with much acclaim.

I would honestly give michael spinks a 50/50 shot at beating evander holyfield if they fought between 1989-1991.

Liston of '58 would be too much for a slightly aging Marciano. Liston would do to him what Marciano did his whole career.

He couldn't even beat Marshall when Marciano was champ.

Marshall was '54. Plus Liston continued with a broken jaw. No shame losing by SD with a broken jaw. Would YOU box on with a broken jaw?
Liston of '58 was the threat to Marciano.

Spinks quit at the right time.

He got huge purses for Cooney and Tyson.

Tyson was dominant at HW and Cruiserweight was devoid of name opponents.
