I know that Evander fired Manny after the Bowe rematch and replaced him with Don Turner. Was Manny fired because Holyfield is a man of God and Steward has a potty mouth, constantly saying "****,damn, ass,****,*****," etc? To be honest, I can't see Steward in a circle, holding hands with Evander's entourage reciting a prayer. I just can't.

Holyfield: Lord Jesus, give me the strength and the courage to set an example for our children and inspire them to know that they can do whatever they set their young minds to do. The decision of this upcoming fight lies in the hands of the judges, but Father, YOU are the ultimate judge and grant victory. Amen.

The Rest of Holyfield's Camp: Amen and Alleluia

Manny Steward: What the **** is this mother****er talking about?

Is Manny's potty mouth the reason for his departure? I can't find any info to confirm this, but it seems like the most likely scenario.

Steward took short money to help Evander beat Bowe. Once Evander regained the title Steward asked him to share the love and Evander said Bye. They're still friends though.

A smarter guy would have kept Stewad on simply on the basis that he had helped him to beat Bowe!

Definitely. Don Turner was a horrible replacement.

I wonder if things might have panned out differently in the third Bowe fight, if Evander had been free of hepatitis and had Steward in his corner..

Really? That's what happened? Dismissing Steward was not a wise decision on Holyfield's part.

I think it was financial, but they left on civil terms.

Don Turner seemed to have a better dynamic with Holyfield.

He offered Manny what, $250k for the Moorer fight? Anyone think Commander Vander loses that one if Manny is preparing him against a former pupil of his? Holyfield choose to save money and that fiscal decision cost him.

No, he would have still "lost" to Moorer, his shoulder went (or his heart went funny ?). It was an unforseeable injury or illness, in all likelihood.
It was the dismissal of his cut man that may have been a bigger factor.

I heard that the falling out was actually largely about Steward being untrustworthy.

Steward wanted a % instead of a regular fee... Holy said: "Bye, Baby."

Holy had an injured shoulder & a collapsed left ventricle of the heart against Moorer.
So i agree, under those circumstances Moorer could still be given the decision, by the judges.

Emanuel Steward might not have let Holyfield enter the Moorer fight. Don Turner has to be one of the worst trainers in the world. Right up there with Adrian Davis as far as horrible trainers that were able to train good fighters.

    I agree.

Is Don Turner up there with Jay Bright & Aaron Snowell, regarding their shamefully shoddy "training" of Tyson?

No not that bad, but Snowell actually turned into a pretty good trainer. He worked with Tim Austin and Frankie Randall and did pretty good with them. He just had no experience when he took over Tyson and it was obvious. Bright was never a boxing trainer, ever. When he wasnt training Tyson he was at home making doughnuts.
