Going into the title shot with Maxim ,Murphy was 60-5-1,his last 4 fights had all been inside the distance wins over Lamotta [rtd] Danny Nardico[ko],Joe Rindone[ko],and Cecil Hudson[ko].Murphy deserved his shot ,in fact he was a solid 5-12 favourite to win.Maxim boxed his ears off.
he did not have a recent win over lamotta as lamotta beat him after their first match.lamotta had been beaten by hayes who he then beat ,tied with hairston who he beat, got beat by murphy then beat murphy .so why no lamotta getting the shot?
