Why did it take so long for Floyd to become a ppv star?

Considering he won the title in 1998, why did it take 7 years for him to fight on ppv, his first ppv fight was in 2005 against gatti, and he was still making low 7 figure paydays like $3 million around that time. Considering the talent he has I don't know why he didn't become a star earlier in his career, he would of made much more money like oscar de la hoya who had many megafights through his career while Floyd only got on top of the game approaching 30 years old.

Bob Arum mismanaged him to a great extent. That is why Floyd broke ranks the second he figured he could.

    Combination of two things.

    1. Style isn't fan friendly
    2. You normally have to beat up a big PPV attraction before you become one yourself. PPV attraction doesn't always equal boxing ability; that's what is strange about boxing promotion.

...This, basically. If Floyd didn't learn to promote himself as a villain type, a lot of casual fans would've never heard of him and he wouldn't have scored a fight with ODLH either.

I think after he beat castillo he should of gone under the attack in 2002 he just wasted between 2002-2005 fighting guys like, Sosa, Ndou, Corley, Bruselles, that was four pointless fights.

th answer to your question is simple. floyd realised he can become A ppv star by making boxing fans hate him. he couldn't get them to love him, so he did the opposite, and it's worked. he's got a mouth, he's promoted himself very well. he's been on tv countless of times promoting himself. he's done very well.

    PPV Star?

ODLH was the reason for the PPV numbers...not floyd

Ricky Hatton- while limited, his fan base is incredible, he had more to do for it than floyd

after 2 year layoff, and boring ass klitschko fights and chavez jr ppvs...floyd gets big numbers by default....

    product of circumstance

So, if Floyd didn't promote fights as he does the outcome of the interest generated would be the same?

wrong. the guy in his avatar beat oscar twice, and look where it got him. obviously something else drew the fanbase towards floyd that it didn't do for shane, and the reason is simple. floyd is much more charismatic, and appeared on tv alot more. basically floyd wanted to be a star, and he went out of his way to get it.

he became a PPV star after the DLH a fight and also he's taking advantage of a shortage of stars in boxing right now.. no big HW, plus all the real stars have either retired or are old and not as good as before.. when DLH, tito, vargas, roy jones, hopkins and a bunch more were still around in their prime floyd was an afterthought

    :hat

Those weren't pointless fights each one was a step up or around a step up in weight...

You don't stay a PPV attraction forever.

The 2nd DLH/Mosley fight did close to a million buys and then he lost to WInky in a PPV fight (if I remember correctly), losing that ability to draw.

Props to Mosley for always challenging himself but by no means was his career managed to maximize his earning potential

hopkins was not a ppv draw, nor was vargas. floyd has done over one million buys in like his last four fights. the only one who can compete with that on that little list is oscar.
