Why Did It Take So Long For Usyk's Talent To Be Recognized Properly?

He got recognized as he accomplished more and more.

Many people didn’t expect him to beat AJ, let alone Fury. He was a fairly sizable underdog in the first fight against AJ. When he beat AJ and then Fury, he basically exceed everyone’s expectations. He didn’t just exceed people’s expectations, he blew pass them.

Jalolov strikes me as someone who is extremely disinterested in making it big in the pros. He also looked pretty average in his last 10 rounder against an opponent that Bakole blew away and got bullied in the amateurs by Joyce. It genuinely wouldn't surprise me if he's got more interest in the next Olympics than making it as a pro. Jalolov has nobody to blame for his stagnating pro career other than himself.

If EE fighters want to make it in the pros, they are given all the tools to do so. The Klitschkos, Golovkin, and Kostya are a few examples, but they don't get as easy a ride as US and UK fighters who were decorated amateurs, that's for sure.

I don't believe they are given those tools. You have mentioned the few that broke out, not the many who have not been given opportunities.

certain segments of hardcores knew what he was capable of from watching his WSB stuff along with his regular amateur pedigree. although a disproportionate amount of them were heavyweight superfans(both amateur and pro) and/or hardcore EE fans.

I never followed cruiser. When I would watch his highlights, he looked good but not great. But highlights dont show what Usyks great at, which is his IQ. Then I think one of my first full fights I watched was Bellew and Chisora. Neither fight overly suggested to me he would beat AJ or Fury. But the more I watched of him the more I saw where his greatness came from, and it also has to do with me overrating Fury by a lot and AJ by a little.

Mix it all together and I was a late arrival to the Usyk train. But better late then never I suppose.

I sure hope you've gone back and watched CW matches from the mid-late 00s up until the late 2010s.

Look @tinman I'm glad you finally outed yourself as an Usyk fanboy, and have been for the last 6 years. We're happy to have you onboard... as long as you're not too annoying about it.:sisi1 But alongside @IntentionalButt and I. The following guys have also been on his bandwagon since....

Whereas I appreciate the shout, I no longer expect Uysk to fight Kudryashov for the heavyweight title.

I thought usyk was p4p the best after he dominated gassiev. I didn't think he was big enough to beat Joshua or fury until he beat Joshua.

When Usyk and Lomachenko started there pro careers together Loma was considered the better of the two and had an enormous amount of hype around him. Justifiable. I thought Loma was technically superior and still do. Obviously Loma picked up a few loses along the way. Couple of them i disagree on the official decision. Usyk took and slower more quiet approach quietly in the background and just kept getting those wins. Staring id say with Hunter he just starting taking scalps. That's how I see it
