it was more than that man. Frazier hated him so much that he was ready to go out blind for the 15 round after the beating he took in the 14th. He didn't speak to Futch for years after stopping the fight. And he said once 'that it is obvious who came a winner after the trilogy' referring to Ali's Parkinson.

Ali crossed the line with all his comments he made Frazier hated by his all community and his own people. If Frazier could've killed him in the 15 round I guess he would've done it.

Frazier gave Ali money, when Ali was banned and jobless. Ali always hated that he had been dependent on Frazier, evef if for a short amount of time. He took it out on Joe by making the entire country think that Joe was an Uncle Tom and a white man's champion. Ali was a mulatto, who grew up in a middle class home, and Frazier was a southern black man who grew up working on a tobacco plantation- therefore Ali calling Frazier an Uncle Tom was absolute bull****. What Ali did to Joe went way beyond promoting their fights, it was hatefull.

I think the bad blood started when muhammad was exiled from boxing. joe helped him out during that time, and when ali came back, he didn't do joe any favors by calling him out and viciously taunting him and degrading him. it hurt joe. calling someone an uncle tom and a gorilla during the tumultuous 1960's and 70's in the u.s were some of the worst slurs to call a black man. frazier responded by questioning ali's muslim faith and referring to him as clay, which only fueled the fire. they were also from two totally different sides of the spectrum. ali was a fast talking, brash trendsetter who subscribed to what was at the time considered to be an extremist, dangerous faith, even to black people, while joe was a traditional, southern born, humble, christian african american. it was a clash of styles in and out of the ring

They realized that MARKETING and PROMOTION are part of selling a fight.

then how the hell does that explain why the bad blood never died well after they were too old to fight? marketing and promotion doesn't explain that.

All these reasons were right... Frazier gave Ali money to keep him going. Literally after he gave him the money Ali went out and started calling him Uncle Tom and ugly gorilla.

What sealed the deal and made it worse was that Marvin had come home from school crying, because of the kids calling his father a "gorilla". It was really bad and I understand why Frazier was pissed. :smoke

Racism... plain and simple. It's well known in the black community, that racism exists between light-colored blacks and darker ones.

Cause Ali is a nutcase and Frazier never understood that part. Frazier always took things personal. Losing 2 in 3 only added to it.

Frazier should have never taken Ali's nut-talk seriously and most of all not personally.

It's not that simple. Ali called Frazier an uncle Tom and a traitor to his race. It caused a lot of pain and suffering to Joe and his family. Constant death threats, 24 hour police protection, kids beat up at school. All of this to promote a fight?

For Ali it was all marketing any hype - he understood from the very beginning exactly how to use his charisma and image to sell a fight. He was the best of all time at it. He'd say anything to get people to tune in, to buy tickets, etc. For Ali it was about making people pick sides, about making himself look good, and about making sure the eyes of the world were glued to the fight.

For Frazier though it wasn't like that. He took the insults to heart, especially the Uncle Tom remark, and it wounded him deep. Because of his building hatred as a result of Ali's insults he could never forgive him, and only made a grudging peace with Muhammad two years before his death.

It also had to burn that he lost the trilogy, and that Ali retired with so much money, where he ended his life living in a tiny, damp appartment above a gym, living off tinned food.

Ali was the greatest heavyweight of all time. That being said, as a human being, he was a loudmouth piece of ****. Frazier wasnt the only fighter visibly hurt by Alis mouth. Sonny Liston and George Foreman also got whipped by the tongue.

Frazier helped out Ali financially when Ali was banned from the sport over his vietnam stance. When Ali came back from his ban he insulted Frazier time and time again ..... not in a promoting-a-fight-way ..... but the sort of insults one black man does not say to another. Ali was ruthless with Frazier, called him an "uncle Tom", he said his points defeat to Frazier was a "white decision", he said Frazier was a traitor to his race etc etc. After fight 3 (the thriller in manilla) Ali still hadnt apologise to Fraziers face. All 3 fights were guaranteed 'sell-outs' so there was no need for that sort of promotion. Ali was just very very vindictive and Frazier never really forgave him.

Only up until last year did Frazier really make-up with Ali ...... even a couple of years ago, Joe Frazier used to boast on his personal cell-phone auto answering message that he gave Ali parkingons desease in fight 3.

I like Ali, but he had a very real and vindictive dark-side when he was younger.
