From the later interviews I saw,Frazier still hated Ali for all that he said.

I think a lot of what Ali said was done from promotional purposes,but Frazier saw it as taking it too far.

Remember seeing an interview with Fraziers son(or brother), ringing Joe and Joes answering machine basically had the message saying "see the way Ali shakes? Well im the man that did it to him, leave your message.

And this was a documentary from the last decade.

Also,showed in an interview with Fraziers son, that Ali had come to the son(marvis?) years later after a fight,and said "tell your daddy,im sorry for things I said at the time"
When Marvis told Joe this, he basically said "where was his apology back then?" and said he didnt accept the apology.

There's a funny moment in Champions Forever where Frazier mentions the Uncle Tom insult and says he didn't actually know what an Uncle Tom was. he says he thought it was a guy who went around peeping through windows, at which point Larry Holmes bursts into laughter and says "You mean a peeping Tom". Frazier nods and says "Yeah and it got me mad cos I never went around peeping through no windows"

I met Frazier in May and asked if he still hated Ali and he said yes and i said good because i hate the ******* as well and he laughed.

He took it out on Joe by making the entire country think that Joe was an Uncle Tom and a white man's champion. Ali was a mulatto, who grew up in a middle class home, and Frazier was a southern black man who grew up working on a tobacco plantation- therefore Ali calling Frazier an Uncle Tom was absolute bull****. What Ali did to Joe went way beyond promoting their fights, it was hatefull.

Frazier helped out Ali financially when Ali was banned from the sport over his vietnam stance. When Ali came back from his ban he insulted Frazier time and time again ..... not in a promoting-a-fight-way ..... but the sort of insults one black man does not say to another. Ali was ruthless with Frazier, called him an "uncle Tom", he said his points defeat to Frazier was a "white decision", he said Frazier was a traitor to his race etc etc. After fight 3 (the thriller in manilla) Ali still hadnt apologise to Fraziers face. All 3 fights were guaranteed 'sell-outs' so there was no need for that sort of promotion. Ali was just very very vindictive and Frazier never really forgave him.

Only up until last year did Frazier really make-up with Ali ...... even a couple of years ago, Joe Frazier used to boast on his personal cell-phone auto answering message that he gave Ali parkingons desease in fight 3.

I think Ali was just truly trying to sell the fight, i dont think a lot of the mean **** he said about fighters was serious

Joe however took it to heart and thats why he hated Ali so much

how does a fight between two undefeated heavyweight champions, Olympic gold medalists fighting in Madison Square Garden, need any more promotion then it already had?

A day in the gym:

Ali went into his packed gym for a workout, and if there was any doubt of his mellowing toward Frazier it was dispelled. He hit the gym like a kid bent on chasing the boredom from a late summer afternoon. Of all the meaness, racial and personal directed at Frazier over the years this one was without duplication. As soon as he climbed into the ring, the crowd chanted his name, and he moved to the edge of the ring as if he was going to explain the finer parts of the seminar. Gypsy Joe Harris, back in Fraziers good books, stood to the back of me and wacthe d as Ai let the crowd fall to a hush.

"Who am I?" he finally asked. "You know who I am?"
"The greatest!" Bundini shouted. "The king of all he see."
The crowsd began to chant, responding like one of those crowds that used to great some Duke of Doo Wop:2The greatest! The greatest!"
It continued until Ali spread his hands for silence."Gorilla," he then said He waited, then came at them with a louder "Gorilla."
"Joe Frazier!" a guy in the back shouted, looking like an arriviste Hell's Angel.
"No!" a young white woman with a pasty face, blond hair like straw, and the decolletage of a barmaid shouted at ringside. "The ape man! Ape! Ape!"
Ali stared above the gathering into infinity, his mouth angry, eyes blank, then he screamed. "Joe Frazier should give his face to the Wildlife Fund! He so ugly, blind men go the other way!" Bundini slapped his thighs, the comic in love with his own lines. "Ugly! Ugly! Ugly!" Ali went on, then added: "He not only looks bad! You can smell him in another country!" he held his nose. "What will the people in Maila think? We cant have a goriall for a champ. They gonna think , lokin' at him, that all blak brothers are animals. Ignorant. Stupid. Ugly. If's the champ again other nations will laugh at us."
"Call us pig farmers!" the Hell's Angel bleated. "Cant have it!"
"Jist ******s!" a black guy screamed, tossing the grenade from the rear that extracted a sad expression from Ali. "Ain't that the truth," he said. "Jist *****hs and freaks. They gonna say that 'bout me?"
"Nooooooo!" the crowd roared in unison
"Right on!" Ali agreed, then prepared for his parting shot. " Gorilla," he said. "Ugly and smelly!" He then dropped low, on his haunches, splayed his feet, knickles waving by his knees, and turned hisnose flat and gross as he mimicked an ape. He jumped frantically around the ring, snorting and puzzled like an ape. the crwod chanted his name, mindless, nearly out of hand and, with frazier not there to trample to death, it pushed toward the ring. Ali held his hands up, then dropped onefinger to crush his nose again and said: "Settle down now. Be back in a few minutes and show ya how I'm gonn adetroy the *****h."
"Smoke ain't gonna like this," Gypsy said, shaking his head.

it would not have been called the fight of the century if ali did not cause such a stir
