Why Did John Murray Duck Victor Ortiz?

John Murray had the chance to fight Victor Ortiz on Khans undercard against Maidana on HBO but he and his trainer turned down the fight.

It was a great oppertunity for John to get some international exposure instead of stagnating fighting unknowns with 10 losses on thier records.

John Murray could have fought Victor Ortiz and gained an international following but him and Joe Gallagher turned down the fight to "protect" John. I hate to say it but the grossly over-protected way Johns career is going he will probably be aboutu 28/29 before he gets a world title shot, Then get blown away in it because his handlers failed to raise the level of competition.

Im starting to give up on Murray, He has a great come-forward style thats exciting to watch but the quality of his opponents is sub-par. Now that the WBU which had no mandatory challengers is pretty much defunt John Murrays chances of winning a world title even a unrecognised one have been severely diminished.

Ideally Murray should be fighting someone like Miguel Vasquez but even his trainer Joe Gallagher would never take that fight to protect John.

We all know what happens to over-protected, over-hyped undefated fighters ala Salita when they finally get a world title shot.

I just hope for the sake of John his trainer is willing to raise the level of competition, The fact that Joe Gallagher has repeatedly refused to let John fight anyone who is undefeated or a champion or someone who is not shot to bits ala Thaxton shows his lack of confidence in John Murary, In that case perhaps its time for Murray to get a new trainer and promotor.

 

Its 5lbs, Half a weight division. Im sure a big boy like Murray who has problems making weight anyway would have problems putting on an extra 5lbs to fight Ortiz.

 

Murray's looked pretty limited in the past, it's just a matter of time till he gets beaten.

Why would John Murray move up in weight to fight someone that doesn't even have a world title?

 

To gain international expsure, To raise the level of competition and experience to get yourself into contention for world title, Instead of fighting tomato cans and wanting a world title shot handout.

I dont know where Khan comes into this equation, Please stick to John Murray who the thread is about.

On a seperate note Khan has already defeated Victor Ortiz in the amatuers and if Khan beats Maidana who beat Ortiz then there is no need for him to fight his friend victor ortiz in the short-term.

This is a question about why John Murray ducked Ortiz and his chance for a huge payday and international exposure.
