Btw it is now time to revisit the sparring stories about AJ and how his sparring partners had managed to drop him many times in Sparring. Lol, going by what we saw against Ruiz, i have no doubt in my mind that AJ definitely suffered the same fate against his sparring partners and Match room boxing went out of their way to hush it up. You cannot do much about a weak chin, fight as much like Wlad as you want, in this sport you are going to hit in the face eventually.
If the ref asks you if you want to continue and you reply with " Can I have 6 fried chicken legs with Mayo dip please no salt" then he has every reason to stop it.. Joshua thought he was at Dixies Chicken house ffs
Exactly, how I saw it, albeit highlights, what clean punch? To his temple, yes. Breathing heavy, early, but few point that out. He was bleeding from the nose, so apparently those shots got to AJ. Good observation. Weird stoppage, but not in a fixed way.
You're right he gave him a lot of time but by the same token he was totally coherent in the corner and he didn't look hurt bad enough to wave it off given he was the reigning champion defending his belts. Like I said, Ruiz would've dropped him almost immediately upon resumption had he not waved it off and there was no way back for AJ. However, I still feel he could've given him one last chance. If he was wobbling all over the place on spaghetti legs I wouldn't have a problem with it. But either way the outcome was going to be the same.
I didn't even notice him spit the shield out. Yeah like I said, I think he was trying to buy some time but it backfired on him.
The stoppage was legit for two big reasons: - he'd been dropped heavily three times before and didn't look to be finding any way back into the fight - his body language was completely negative and he looked like he wanted out, regardless of what he said If the fight had continued he would have been knocked down again and possibly badly hurt, so it was actually the lesser of two evils. Joshua looked terrible in this fight. Completely exposed.
He gasses badly and was concussed. You can't say he quit, he was simply empty. Look its been coming a while, he's shown signs in a lot of fights that he gasses badly and punches himself out. Its just that Ruiz had the tools to capitalize on what is an obvious flaw in Joshua's armoury. He has so much muscle mass which uses too much oxygen. He couldn't move his legs on lift his hands properly towards the end his as he was just out of gas...if youve ever been to the gym or done any sort of exercise you'll know the effects of lactic acid build up and that you just get to a point where you completely collapse...runners call it hitting the wall, as a keen cyclist myself you get to a point where you just cant literally turn the pedals anymore. This is what happened to AJ he carries too much mass and despite the warning before it finally caught up with him. He needs to lose some bulk or just not fight Ruiz because he has his number.
Yeah well you could say premature but the fighter needs to want to box in. I didn't think AJ did, and was going to take at least another 5 seconds based in his demeanour.
