He saw what happened to his original opponent Kevin Johnson, blasted out in two, and decided to bow out day before he was to be stripped. Cowardly Lion.

I don't think he promised anything. All he said immediately after the fight, obviously in the heat of the moment, that he would grant a rematch as Vitali was furiously demanding one. He never directly nor officially promise anything.

What I thought was a cheap move, even though he earned it, was the stalling of the belts only to retire one day before being stripped. Clearly he wanted to **** Vitali off while making the division/sport look stupid in the process.

In the end his retirement was understandable whether you would like to understand it or not is up to you. He's old, not into it and didn't need to risk anything anymore, he earned his retirement.

Lennox saw how Vitali harpooned the fat whale, then looked at his own waistline and realized he better not take the risk:

This is what I never get. You do realize that he already fought Vitali on short notice, right? So he's a coward for not fighting someone he already fought? :nut

Lennox should have have retired say 2-3 months after the Vitali fight, even before the Johnson fight. If he just said "Guys I'm not really motivated anymore, I don't feel the fire anymore and it's time for the new guys to fight it out. Good luck." that would have shown some class and I think he'd be more at peace today.

But instead he had Vitali take doctor's exams, waited for the Johnson fight to play out, then kept saying how he wants to make a minimum $50 million vs. Vitali, etc. etc. He just kept talking to the press, disrespecting Vitali and being his usually cocky self. Then he went into hiding, hugging his belt for a full 12 months waiting to be stripped, then retires. Really weird.

Wow, that sounds kind of like a cowardly thing to do, right?

Kind of childish almost. Maybe he was hoping Vitali would lose to Kirk?

Vitali don't care. Neither does Lewis.

If you died tommorow, Vitali won't cry. Neither will Lewis.

If you become paralyzed tommorow, Vitali won't send you flowers.

Why would and how could you send flowers to someone whose existence you aren't aware of?

    But...thanks for sharing. :hi:

The irony of it all is that I believe Lennox could have easily blown away Vitali a second time around had he put his mind to it. Not saying he should have -- it's his own decision and right to retire.

But instead he chose this childish cat and mouse game after the fight that made him look like a total idiot in the end.

Champ does whatever the Fck he wants to do.

The guy went through Bowe in the Olympics, Holyfield Tyson, Klitschko in the pros and avenged all his losses. With a tough career he has nothing left to prove.
