Yep, Lewis wanted to retire as undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. A loss to Vitali wouldnt allow him to do it. I do agree with you about it wouldnt hurt his legacy, because of the way Vitali has been dominating since. But if he was beating by a Vitali who later on turned out to be a bum, then a lot of so called "experts" would somehow discredit Lennox´s resume, so thats why I think he chose to retire, because he wasnt the same fighter, and because of fear that it might hurt his legacy in the future.

I really dont think it matters anymore, about why he didnt give Vitali a rematch, cause Lewis is clearly the best heavyweight of the last 30 years or so.

Oh, so it was Manny Steward who crawled into Lewis' body during Lennox' interview on HBO as Lewis stated that he wanted to fight Roy Jones Jr and take the S off of his chest. My mistake... I didn't realize that Lewis was possessed by Steward at that time.

    1. There was no point in a rematch, Lewis had already proved to the world that VITLAY is a glass skinned bum.

    2. How many times is this going to brought up

I was referring to the article posted by madballster and so my comments still stand.

However, regardless of the fact I have a quote which contradicts any posturing from Lewis, please post your source for the interview you mention.

    Thanks.

    My source?

If I can find a way to post my memory on this website I will get that right to you. I follow the sport extremely close... that's my source. Not everything that happened in the history of boxing is on the internet in text or video form. This was all common knowledge to boxing fans in 2003.

    Window has an agenda.

Lewis is clearly better than both brothers. He has more handspeed than Vitali, and has many more dimensions than Wladimir.

I'll just post the link from this website which is actually a pretty good interview:

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/boxing-news/Lennox-Lewis-Interview.php

He mentions Jones and his plans of fighting both brothers even before Kirk Johnson was injured.

OK - So just to be clear - you are stating, from memory, that in the HBO post-fight interview with Lewis, following his bout with Klitschko, "Lewis stated that he wanted to fight Roy Jones Jr and take the S off of his chest"

    Please confirm.

Because Lewis values his legacy more than a $20m payday.
