Different backgrounds if I remember correctly, Morales saw Barrera as born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Clash of classes.
marco calling him an Indio (insulting him..)to his face..what a tosser! Morales insulting him and his family.. marco tried to squash it but got shitted on back..remember that?
aye, but Morales called Barrera a maraquita(or however its spelled) when Barrera went over to him after one of their classics, I always got the impression that Barrera wanted Erik to like him, but Erik just wouldnt give him any respect.
One's from the Ghetto and one's a middle class well to do guy who happened to be able to fight very well . I think the needle was more on Morales side, But as lads say that kicked it off but i do get impression Morales resented Barrera's upbringing.
Morales was a wanker thats why. He resented the fact that Marco was from a middle class family and seemed to think because he was from the 'Streets' he was more the 'real' Mexican. Same with DeLaHoya - Somehow being a from a family of better 'stature' makes you less of a national. IRRC Barrera is a qualified lawyer too, never made him less of a fighter.
De La Hoya feasting on an ancient version of Mexico's favourite son didn't exactly endear him to the masses though, did it? The fact that he liked showing his face at movie premieres and at the opening of an envelope isn't really that important.
Morales/Barrera is a great rivalry, not just because the fights were classics. Two stubborn *******s, both hard as nails who thoroughly disliked each other to the extent that they wanted to beat the living **** out of each other every time they got in between those ropes, and they still couldn't get it out of their system after three classic wars. I like me some genuine animosity every now and again, as opposed to the Bull**** rivalries that get created where guys like Haye and Chisora claim to hate each other, then act like homedawgs after. Bellew vs Cleverly, I like me that rivalry.
Love how Barrera pops then slips the counter.:yep Like it or not,Morales bitterness is down to unwarranted jealousy, and Barrera was no more priveledged than Marquez. When Morales refused the handshake,my mind was made up for good on who was my favourite of the two. Morales is magnificent, but Barrera will always have his number.
