Maccarinelli - had reigned as WBU & WBO World Crusierweight Champion since 2003.

Maccarinelli - was on a mission - to clean the belts up.

Maccarinelli - believed himself - that he was number 1 in the world - and the hardest puncher - in the Crusierweight divison.

Enzo Calzaghe - backed him up and said he was NO 1.

So did Joe Calzaghe - and he said he felt sorry for Haye - because he knew what kind of shape - Enzo was in - and thought Enzo was gonna dish a beatdown to Haye.

Frank Warren - proclamimed - Enzo - as thee hardest pound for pound puncher - worldwide.

Enzo and Haye had been potential rivals since Haye went pro.

    Same height.
    Same age.
    Same weight.
    Same murderous punchers.
    Same dodgy chin.
    Both British.
    Both World Champions.

Maccarinelli said he begged his promoter for the fight to happen.

Looked forward to punching a hole in Hayes head and proving he was more than just a Glamour Boy.

    So - the trio - -----

    Enzo Maccarinelli
    Enzo Calzaghe
    Frank Warren

Made the fight with Haye happen.

    Big show.

3 world titles on the line.

    O2 arena.

Maccarinelli won the stare down with Haye at the weigh in - and causally smiled and joked with Joe Calzaghe before he went on the scales.

Showtime - TV executives flew in from America to show the fight all across the East and West Coast of the United States.

Boxing Legends like Holyfield and Bruno - were arching their necks to get a better view of the action.

While Celebritys mingled in the crowd - waiting for the action to begin.

Just who is the best Crusierweight in the World ?

    The anticaption was electric.

But after all that - come the night - Maccarinelli completely mentally crumbled.

So why did Maccarinelli - begin to mentally crumble - when while in the passenger seat - of Enzo Calzaghes Vauxhall people carrier - they pulled up outside the o2 arena - and super confidence of the last few months gave way to fear ?

I mean David haye had been out training and sparring in Miami Florida with some fringe World Class Heavyweights.

But so what ? = Big Enzo had been training in Enzo Calzaghes legendary fight shed in South Wales alongside guys like Tony Docherty and Bradely Price.

His hair went more like a afro than Hayes.

He done a sprint to the ring - that would have left a prime Linford Christie for dead.

He ran to the ring and got blasted out inside 2 rounds - done a drunken stagger - and tried to make conversation with the ref in centre ring.

Even trainer Enzo Calzaghe - said he condemed himself that night.

And Frank Warren said he froze a little bit.

Colin Hart said Maccarinelli froze and just made it easy for Haye.

Its a interesting psycolgicial issue - why after being so confident for so long - did Maccarinelli mentally crumble on the night ?

"With fear, a man becomes emotionally tired and when he is afraid, he has no faith in himself."

"Heroes and cowards feel exactly the same fear. Heroes just react to it differently."

"The first lesson I teach these kids before I teach them to box is a lesson about Fear, about what Fear is and why we have it. Fear is like a fire. If you control it, as we do when we heat our houses, it is a friend. When you don't, it consumes you and everything you do and everything around you."

Enzo let the big crowd and the pressure get to him,Haye was loving it.Im not saying Enzo would have won but he would certainly have done better had he not let the occasion get to him.

It doesn't matter who believed in him. The fact of the matter is he just wasn't good enough. I remember at the time being surprised he made it out the 1st round.

No he wouldn't. He'd have lost every second of however long he survived. Haye completely ruined him.
