Why did Maccarinelli mentally crumble on the night just before he fought Haye ?

Cant get why so many people seem to totally disregard Enzo`s ability. He was a good fighter, yes the Haye fight sent his career downhill fast but up to that point he had done very well.I think he was better than what we saw that night,he fought the wrong fight and was not his usual self.

    Yes.

When under stress - you forget to do -basic obvious things - cos your mind isnt functioning right.

the key question is - when did the stress kick in ?

It wasnt when the fight was announced - and they did the big opening press conference to announce the fight.

It wasnt in the build up in the weeks before the fight when Enzo was training and giving interviews to Setanta Sports sounding Confident.

It wasnt at the weigh in - when Enzo laughed and joked with joe Calzaghe and stared Haye right in the eyes.

It was on the night. In them final few hours before the fight. Probaly in the Hotel room - his heart was beating. And by the time Enzo Calzaghe said it was time to leave for the O2 arena and they all jumped into Enzo Calzaghes Vauxhall People carrier - made their way to the arena - Maccarinellis stress levels started to kick in.

Unfortunately I always knew that the fight was going to be an execution. I think Warren thought Haye was dead at the weight which would help Maccarinelli.

Whilst there is no need to be going over old ground, anybody saying Enzo only crumbled when he got hit is plain wrong.

Enzo was gone before entering the ring.

It was a sad ****ing sight, but one of the most hilarious knockouts I've ever seen. The way he tries to just jog back to his corner and the ref's like "...no."

He showed his inexperience there - and stress he was under.

When the ref orders him back to the corner - a camera shot captures him looking down the lens of one of the ringside camera people - and you can tell he is thinking - "shitting hell - this is really happening - the cameras and crowds are all there - and I'm in the ring with David Haye" - the whole event was too much for him mentally.

When you go down - like that - taking a knee and allowing your head to clear would be the sebnsible and seasoned way of a true world class operator.

To his credit - like David Haye done against Jean Marc Mormeck.

But Enzos inexperience and lack of ring generalship was exposed.

Because he got up immediately - and was out on his feet - and for some bizarre reason - he wasted what little strength he had left - to drunkenly walk to the centre of the ring - to engage the referee in conversation.

It was quite bizzare when you think about it - why would you stagger to centre ring to hold a conversation with the referee ?

I think he was just acting on instinct - and he was exposed has not have the ring maturity / generalship - experience - to handle the situation and try to regroup his senses.

I dont think he had much expereince and training of how to handle surviving , etc.

You dont learn much knocking over stiffs like Bobby Gunn.
