On the Moore-Valdes fight, I did find it a bit much from the poster who implied this fight was not on the level.

Just me, but I find that a rather desperate argument.

The British were known to be a bit prissy back then but from the days of John L. Sullivan to Dempsey,Johnson(laces),Louis,Ali,Holmes-thumbs on up the Americans kind of dominated until Lennox Lewis but Lennox was not prissy he learned a thing or 2 from the Americans and Manny Stewart....Americans don't bow to the of marques of Queensbury but have a more George Washington approach and improvisation not a foul but rougher play

    we don't mind

    "baseball and football"

I only mentioned them as illustrations that Americans looked at sports and sportsmanship differently.

"not only got away with them he wasn't even warned"

Which sounds like "winking" to me.

    I agree to disagree.

Here is an article that states "Marciano ducked Archie Moore for a period of time before fighting him." No mention of Marciano ducking Nino Valdes. In fact, this article states Manager Al Weill ducked Archie Moore by insisting Marciano fight Nino Valdes and Don ****ell instead of Archie Moore. Looks like Moore was the one who was ducked, not Valdes.

I don't see how DubbleChin can claim Al Weill was scared to fight Nino Valdes.

Ok, debate over then. Why does it seem you keep coming to Valdes defense in this thread?

Moore had once had a mis-diagnosed heart condition Kearns took him to see several specialists until he found one who corrected the problem.Thought you would have known this Suzie?

Marciano did more than hit on the break he hit Lastarza low several times, he hit ****ell low several times, hit him when he was down and butted him. he hit Moore ,Charles ,and ****ell after the bell, and liberally used his head and elbows .

Jack Johnson has no place in this discussion.
    Want a few wife beaters?
    Mike Tyson
    Ray Robinson
    Diego Coralles
    Floyd Mayweather Jnr
    Jim Corbett
    Jake Lamotta
Joe Louis nearly strangled Lena Horne to death .

What exactly has any of it to do with Marciano continually fouling in his title defences?

Stop embarrassing yourself, have a break and jerk off to your Jim Jeffries photos.

Thats your interpretation of it Suzie, I've said several times on this thread that Rocky kos Valdes imo. I just feel that Weill may have decided to give Valdes a miss, he was the number one contender for two years after all. BTW Peter Wilson saw every heavyweight champion from Dempsey to Frazier except for Sharkey in 1955 he put Louis at no 1 ,Marciano at no 2.

You mind when the shoes on the other foot I remember the furore over Benn and Honeyghan's fights with Yanks.
Holmes thumbed Williams ,Scott Frank and possibly Smith. When did Johnson ever get warned for lacing an opponent?

Fouling is fouling, it isnt improvisation it is the deliberate use of an illegal move to otain an unfair advantage ,as such it is cheating. Stop trying to dress it up as," good old USA home cookin." It's total BS.

Not disagreeing with you, but I believe his position was that there was no available film footage and very few testimonies to verify weather or not it was..

Actually Valdes lost his # 1 ranking in March of 1954-November of 1954 to Ezzard Charles. So Valdes was the number 1 contender for a period of 10 months. I see your point though.

    McVea,

Valdes was not the number # 1 contender for two straight years like it seems you are trying to claim.

The Ring's heavyweight ratings for May 1954 were as follows:

    1. Ezzard Charles
    2. Nino Valdes
    3. Don ****ell
    4. Jimmy Slade
    5. Tommy Jackson
    6. Roland La Starza
    7. Dan Bucceroni
    8. Earl Walls
    9. Heinz Neuhaus
    10. Tommy Harrison

    August 1954
