I think he focused on trying to increase his strength since he'd probably be coming into the ring at his walking weight. made him look puffy.
Okay, I got the number now. Lampley mentioned Marquez was 148 on the night of the fight against Floyd.
he was 145 i believe vs katsidis. so 3 pounds difference. i think it is fair to say the weight wasn't the problem. it was either training or floyd. either way if he fights pac at 147 he will have to prepare differnetly because his spped was gone vs floyd.
He prolly put weight on too fast vs Floyd, thereby increasing his bodyfat rather than muscle, whereas with Kats he had had more time to put on muscle.
Because he had to eat a lot and put on some weight for the Mayweather fight. He isn't a naturally big man and wasn't fighting at a weight that his body could comfortably fight at. Now with some type of performance enhancing drug, I'm sure he could have done a lot better, but still not have won IMO. That being said, Mayweather was just to big, fast, and better than him that night. With the Katsidis fight, he probably dehydrated himself and was eating properly so as not to gain weight. He body was at its absolute best fighting condition. Being a smart and brilliant technician also doesn't hurt.
Again it is not just the hard number but the rate. Endurance, flexibility and reaction is developed over time not over night. You can put on 5 lbs of muscle in one month it does not mean those are efficient muscles. Your body needs time to adjust. Your heart muscle needs time to get used to additional mass. Nerve connections needs to develop. A lot of little things happen when you are hard working your body with additional muscle mass. PBF walks around in the mid and upper 150s, it does not mean he will be the same in 154 class as he is in 147 even though the fight night weight would be very close.
Probably the food they eat, genetics to some degree, and I don't think too many Mexican fighters lift weights for whatever reason.
i see where you're coming from, and surely as a pro boxer, so should marquez. so why didnt he adopt his methods for the kats fight when he fought floyd?
Who said that? Do you really think 5 or 10 years ago he will get hit so many times, against a fighter like MK?
did you see him vs floyd and diaz 2? you cannot say he performed better then than he did vs katsidis. all at the same weight. he has looked much sharper in his last fight than he has done since diaz 1
