It's probably his training. I think he tried to put on too much muscle against Floyd, which meant he neglected other aspects of his training. Beristain constantly mentioned the lack of speed and that's because they were training for strength, yet he's not a naturally big guy, so all that strength training was wasted because he couldn't grow any more. That time could, and should, have been spent on speed training or even just his natural game.

OK. I have to look for it, but I had PBF himself say he walks around 156-158. Anyway, the point still stand. If he weight around low 150s in a 147 fight and high 150s in a 154 fight, the concept is the same. He would be less efficient even though the fight night weight is not that huge.

What method? It is not about method but the time. You are missing the point. JMM between Diaz and PBF fights had to increase muscle mass quickly, which is not how you develop efficient muscle. SINCE THEN that same mass has had time to develop to be more efficient as seen in the Kat fight.

You can do the most advance techniques but it is not going to change the fact how your body needs time to make all the proper changes. You are not just changing muscle mass. You are changing respiratory and neurological changes. You know how long that takes?

Floyd played it carefully that night, knowing Marquez is a master counterpuncher!

Only to a certain degree. The changes that needs to happen takes months and years. It takes years for an athlete to train a muscle group with repetitive actions to reach world class level. Why do you think that is? There are certain things you cant take a shortcut.

no but pac and marquez have repeatedly weighed in around 140 on fight night.

the reason i think it is is that marqquez foolishly tried overcompensating on fight night.

For the Mayweather fight? No, I believe JMM is too professional for that and trained hard for the fight. It's just that his body isn't cut out for 147. He knew Mayweather would be the bigger man and probably was trying to bulk up the wrong way.

Are you guys serious? The reason he looked bloated vs. May and not vs. Katsidis is because during his training camp, vs. Katsidis, he trained DOWN to 135. Vs. Floyd, he obviously didn't because he didn't need to.

We are going in circles here.

Fight night weight and training weight are 2 different things. Remember that fight night weight is a fully hydrated body. A boxer at this size can easily add 10-12 lbs of water weight.

JMM had to quickly put on AND DEVELOP more muscle mass for training and competition. This is muscle he never had before. You can try to quickly develop that muscle to be durable, strong and fast but you will hit a wall. It is biological. You will hear trainers saying that fighters "need time to get used to the weight". That is basically the explanation of a biological process where your body creates new neurological connections, heart to get use to the more blood being pumped, your joints adding more cushion, etc.

Instead of blaming JMM's training just face the fact that the additional weight was something JMM's body was not accustomed to. Over time that mass developed. But that is OVER time. Months, years. Not in 8 weeks.
