The difference was the opponent.... Katsidis is a decent fighter with a lot of grit & heart.... Mayweather is the premier fighter in the world & on a different level completely.
Yeah, sure Mayweather was too good a boxer, too fast, to athletic & too smart... nothing to discuss here guys, c`mon, you know in your hearts Im right.
This is true. Marquez has been wanting to get at emmanuel for years. Beating Floyd would have been Juan's ticket to get a chance at beating emmanuel's AZZ.
You really dont know why he looked in better shape than vs Mayweather? its because he weighed in at 142 for Mayweather and weighed in at 134 for Katsidis... thats an 8 pd difference.. Then of course you eat... the extra few pounds he put on vs Mayweather during the fight was just food he ate and some water and hardly any rehydrating.. vs Katsidis it was mostly due to rehydration which is what almost all elite boxers always go through.. Cmon.. you really dont know why?
Coming in heavy doesn't necessarily mean poor preparation. Moving up so much in one fight would take a much different approach. So, no, I don't think he prepared poorly, he looked like he wanted to be closer to Floyd's weight. Just was a terrible idea/fight to make.
Right after the Mayweather fight, Marquez said in the ring interview, " I believe I could have done alot better if I would have accustomed my body to the weight by taking a few tuneup at the weight first. ......obviously because of his age and the time ticking, Marquez does'nt have the time to fight tuneups. Obviously because Mayweather had every concievable physical advantage and then some vs Marquez......Marquez felt he needed the mass or Mayweather would have just bullied him. In either case, even if Marquez had focused on speed and came in a few pounds lighter, Mayweather would have still been significantly faster. I say Marquez did the right thing by adding the bulk vs Mayweather, I believe that bulk may have saved him from getting bullied and knocked out. .....as it was, even when Marquez bodied up with Mayweather and tried to muscle him, Mayweather tossed Marquez around at his leisure. I've always believed that Marquez was just as skilled as Mayweather........but anyway you cut it, Mayweather was just too big for him. Mayweather for example could hold his own physically vs Juniormiddleweights and even middleweight, Marquez simply does not have the frame to do that, and it showed in his fight with Mayweather. Could Marquez have done better had he had a few fights above the 140 lbs limit before facing Mayweather? I think so, but he still would not have beaten him. For this very reason I wish boxing would return to the day of the fight weighins......had this been the case vs Mayweather, there would not have been so much of a weight discrepancy the night of the fight, and Marquez would have had at least a chance for an upset. ........btw, I mentioned this in another thread. I think Marquez looked stronger, faster, and sharper vs Katsidis than in any other lightweight fight he's ever had.....the product I feel of finally getting accustomed to fighting at the lightweight limit.
JMM isnt anything special when he initiates which was exactly what happened against Floyd, coupled with the fact that Floyd had 20lbs on him.
The fight between him and Mayweather was fixed! Seriously, there were two major factors that affected his performance: 1. The weight. He usually trains to fight at 135 or 140 lbs. During his fight with Mayweather, he tried to increase his weight to compensate for the size difference between him and Mayweather. Higher weight = Loss in speed (bloated). 2. The opponent. Mayweather is really good. He made Marquez the aggressor in the fight, which is not Marquez' greatest strength as a fighter.
I was about to say this. All should know by now that Marquez is in for the money. Fighting Floyd and Pac is the pinnacle of what you can achieve in boxing money-wise.
Great ****ing thread, I'm impressed ESB. Not much haters, just Boxing fans Conversing! But yeah, I agree with DIVAC, JMM looked faster stronger and great stamina compared to the first DIAZ fight, he is finally accustomed at fighthing 143-145 on fight night... and very smart the way he fought, He always accumalates punches in the early rounds, then goes to work in the later rounds.. I LOVE IT.
