Why did Mayweather choose Marquez and not Mosley or Cotto?

Cotto is tied up, no idea about Mosley, some would say coming back from such a lay off and jumping straight in with Mosley would be idiotic. At least with JMM he's fighting someone world class but keeps his physical advantages.

To help sell the fight with Pacman. It's obvious he wants to come out of retirement and beat the top 2 p4p fighters on the planet. It's the easier route for him to take aswel.

The ultimate goal is a fight with Pac, why not beat the man many felt beat Pac twice? It builds the fight which will be one of the biggest fights ever.

yeah cotto is fighting june. and mosley is a risky fight
but ill tell you exactly why
    1. jmm is p4p number 2 beating him will prepell him to joint top again with pacman
    2. jmm is smaller and is a slightly easier option after a 19 month lay off then mosley
    3. after beating jmm and being joint p4p with pac it makes the fight all the more excitable and gets more people interested meaning more ppv buys and in turn alot more ££££££££££££££££ for the pretty boy

hes a smart business man he knows how to make the money after these two fights i do expect him to fight the next current best welterweight so most likely either cotto or shane

Because he wanted to fight the best fighter available. Pac was busy so he went for numero 2.

1-JMM has a bigger built in fanbase than Shane and arguably Cotto so that's bigger buys

2-He has a good relationship with GBP compared to Top Rank and chances are if he had to negotiate a fight for Cotto, he would RE retire because they'd never come to any sort of compromise on cash.

3-There are those who are guppies to the Pac-JMM-Floyd love triangle who will buy the fight to see how Floyd does against THE rival to Pac.

4-JMM is a hell of a lot less risky than Cotto and Shane. If this is a "tune up" for a Pac fight, you dont want someone who can spoil the stew as one would say.

5- Floyd is well aware of the situation and knows how to rile up the blood of fans to build to a bigger fight. This is a good example.

No idea why he chose Marquez. He would fight Mosley, remember he said he would fight Mosley even when Cotto beat Mosley. I believe the boxing establishment has something against Cotto where he is locked out of any big payday fights/mega events. His promoter did it too him last year when he was promised the DLH fight but Pacquaio-DLH was being negotiated behind his back and the same is happening now where he is promised a fight with Pac but Arum is really lying to him and playing with him again, promising him and then pulling it from him. Arum and Top Rank don't like Cotto and don't want him to have a payday ever. He's probably finally figured this out too when Arum sided with Margarito and left him high and dry. That's why I have a feeling he will ditch him right after the Clottey fight is over, maybe dump him when HBO does their interviewing of him. I think Mayweather falls into that array of locking Cotto out. I think Mayweather would do it as Marquez, Pac, then Mosley. But never Cotto.

JMM is almost 37, needs a payday so is easy to manipulate weight terms to, fading and slowing down, smaller, shorter in stature, and a HELLUVA lot safer than taking on Cotto or Mosley or Williams. in other words, another perfect handpick.

floyd fears Mosley now for some reason and demanded a $20 million guarantee to fight Mosley when GB approached earlier this year. That was a clever way to artfully dodge Mosley who surely looked a lil too dangerous vs. Margarito.

Very true. I mean lets say he beats marquez in less than 12 rounds he could use that to get up pac nose. Because u know floyd will be at his arrogant best in the run up to the pac fight if it does come off.
