Why did Mayweather choose Marquez and not Mosley or Cotto?

That's a good thing and I'm not expecting Mayweather to blow him away like he's nothing, hell no. This is a great test before taking on Pacquiao. Let's face it, he NEEDS this test and I'll explain why. They're making the fight at the catchweight 144, CLEARLY a sign that the Pacquiao fight might end up at 144 or this fight could be a test for him before shooting to 140 for Pacquiao. Neither Cotto nor Mosley would make that move and even if they do it's not a strong enough message to send to Pacquiao. The best way to do it is beat someone Pac struggled with, Pac just recently beat two guys who gave Mayweather decent fights with DLH nearly winning.

The confusion here should remind people of the confusion George Foreman brought when he charged into the scene. He just annihilated guys Ali struggled and LOST to in freaky fashion. Then Ali calls him out as a HUGE underdog and the rest is history.

18mths out of the ring, then faces Juan Manuel Marquez, phew,Marquez has landed on his feet with this chance.Even the best fighters can suffer ring rust and Marquez is on the top of his game.Slight chance of a massive upset here.

Mayweather does not want to risk being in a hard tough fight. If you think about it, his skills have made it so that he rarely has been hit clean. So now if he thinks he might have to be tested, he doesn't know if he can come through it. I understand his way of thinking, but if that is the case maybe he should stay retired. He cannot become great with that mindset.

Even if he fights the guys this dude is mentioning, there are other groups who will claim he's scared to death from Pacquiao. This is going nowhere really, just best to accept reality and what makes the most sense or complain/cry like women.

Simply put, low risk, with a suitable reward for what he intends on doing after the JMM fight. Floyd hasn't fought in a fair while now, it would be unreasonable to expect him to come out and fight Cotto or Mosley as his first fight back (although i don't believe he will ever fight any of the current crop of welters).

Thats a load of rubbish. A Mosley or Cotto fight would be the best fighter he has fought arguably ever, and certainly since his lightweight stint. Its a much more difficult fight than JMM, both guys would be 10 pounds heavier than him and are quality WW's, although Mosley isn't in his prime he still gives anyone hell. Factoring in Floyd hasn't fought in 18 months and isn't getting any younger, either of these guys could potentially give him the fight of his life.

How would some of you guys feel if Mayweather fought Cotto or Mosley right after they came off an 18 month lay off?

Floyd should've just fought jennings or gomez in his first fight back since nobody has a problem with jennings or gomez as an opponent.

hmm says... CHECK IT. Cotto is busy and Mosely called PBF on the phone and said "I want to fight you." but PBF responded "Not Right Now." Anyways, he's probably trying to sell a fight with Pac by going after a smaller guy that'll make him look good. Check it..... JMM is the only guy that gave a shiet load of problems to Pac whom barely won in convincing fashion.. I say barely because the fight can go either way so I don't want to argue with who you thought won. Check it.... Pac has beaten two of PBF's career highlights WAY the **** better than he did.... In return, PBF can make his own statement and build more hype if he beats JMM better than Pac has.... CHECK IT BOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

The 18th month layoff is the key here. I think people underestimate how significant that could be.

Because Cotto fights in June and Mosley ducked him in 1999 and 2006
