Why did Mayweather initiate so many clinches against Maidana?

Maidana fights like a bar room brawler throwing bombs, to beat him, box him, jab and move.

Broner has no footwork so couldn't.

Floyd didn't want to, he wanted to fight he said.

A decent boxer outpoints Maidana everytime.

I've been say that for years. And Marcos applied that in his fights with Adrien and Floyd. The pressure was definitely key as well. Marcos increased his level of activity a LOT for his fight with Floyd.

He typically never throws 100 punches a round but he knew that would be key to eventually finding his target. The unorthodox angles of his punches upstairs created opportunities for his combinations to find openings through Floyd's defense.

If Marcos was faster things would have been a lot worse for the current P4P king. I think that's why so many people wanna see Floyd step up and fight Manny who has a lot of qualities that will challenge Floyd.

Manny is smaller than Marcos but he's faster, more explosive and far more dynamic as a fighter.

Ah, like Khan, Morales, Alexander or Kotelnik, right?

...because Maidana fought them all exactly the way he fought everyone since linking up with Garcia? (Soto Karass, Martinez, Lopez, Broner and Mayweather)

    Exactly the same? You sure?

I just want to be clear on that, you think Maidana is no less a barroom brawler now than 4-5 or even 3 years ago. Right?

Just to make absolutely sure, that way I know to completely disregard your opinion from now on. :good

Love this fight.....without a doubt the best boxing performance by James. He was poppin' off on all cylinders against Iran.

As usual with Toney, look at what great shape he appears to be in for the fight. Toney was a beast when he was in shape and motivated to go.

His punches also come at more orthodox angles, and he doesn't have that dirty inside game that Maidana has to rough Mayweather up. I think Manny has a real problem on the inside against Floyd, as Manny is a mid-range guy when he's most effective. Just IMO.

Probably about the same amount of times Maidana rushed in, held a hit, rabbit punched, punched Floyds thighs, his nuts, wrestled, held the ropes and punched, used his head, elbows and even his teeth...

Running in like a street fighter throwing wild windmilling punches and missing 80-90% of said punches all while wrestling and fouling and you make a thread about floyd clinching...

A decent boxer would get destroyed by Marcos. Don't fool yourself. You have to beat Marcos by earning his respect....if you don't he'll walk right through you and pack up early.

Broner lost because he couldn't deal with the pressure. It would have helped if he did have better footwork but he was going to win that night no matter what kind of foot work he had.

Floyd boxed extremely well against a very motivated and unrelenting Miadana. He just struggled to find his rhythm becuase Marcos was dictating the pace and distance most of the night.

Floyd's a great boxer and had a very hard time outpointing the kid.

Manny's punches come from odd angles as well. Not as extreme as what Marcos exhibited on Saturday when he had Floyd on the ropes and was head hunting....but part of Manny's success has come from his very unorthodox style which includes the odd angles his punches are thrown from. A lot of his opponents and sparring partners mention the angles that PAC throws his punches is partially why it's hard to fight him....the things we always hear about is his speed and the amount of punches he throws in succession.

:good It's really fu*ckin incredible that this man was able to compete so long without really ever dedicating himself to his preparation and conditioning.

Imagine if Toney had Foyd's work ethic...? That's ****ing scary!

the real question should be, why did the ref pull them apart every time and not let them to fight out of the clinches? maidana would have a free arm and landing scoring blows to mays ribs and captain save-a-hoe would come in and save lil floyd within seconds. if u watch the fight closely you will see floyd constantly calling for weeks to "get him off me".

Some refs let fighters fight in the clinch more than others. You should allow the fighters to "fight out of the clinch" but as soon as they tie up...the ref should step in to separate the two. If at least one hand is free they should allow the fighters to work....but again....some refs are quick to break up anything that resembles a clinch. I thought the ref did well for the fight this Saturday....a point deduction would have been fair given the low blows from Marcos.

I don't know if anyone else really noticed this but, Marcos wasn't really teeing off on Floyd's nuts....he was more less just "tapping his nuts". As if he was just trying to frustrate Floyd vs debilitating him. **** was illegal but I found it a little amusing because Floyd has got to be the one guy that EVERYONE fouls. He's just so damn frustrating to fight that everyone kind of wants to land something flush in the course of the fight.
