PBF was clearly moving up to welterweight to cash in on big paydays vs Mosley and DLH.

After PBF fought Gatti at 140, Mayweather then fought Shamba Mitchell at 147 because according to Mayweather's own words the guys he was targeting at 147 in Mosley, Judah, and Winky were not able to sort out deals.

Meanwhile after Mosley after he fought Winky. In 2005 he fought David Estrada at 148 and Jose Luis Cruz at 148. Why didn't he fight PBF at 147 after PBF domianted Gatti and PBF's hype was very high. Why didn't he fight PBF after Micthell but before Judah. Why did Mosley instead move up to 154 to fight Vargas. Then when PBF called him out after Judah stated he wanted to go on vacation because he already fought 4 times in 2 yrs.

Mosley clearly knew that PBF was looking to fight him. PBF stated back in 2001 that he was looking to move up to welterweight to fight Mosley. So why did he move up to 154 when PBF was clearly in weight range to fight him. This is after Mosley already fought DLH as well.

I'm not even writing this to say that Mosley ducked Mayweather. As Vargas was a popular name and may have been a bigger payday. I'm only looking to play devils advocate.

It was made for entertainment really...It was Mosley and Vargas who were both on the downhill of their career and the winner was said to be put back on the right path and the loser was pretty much done...thats how it ended up turning out too...

I think he was staying out of De lahoya's way. maybe Osca thought that he could beat mayweather.

    Interesting post.

Mosely clearly made some poor choices along the way. I think moving up to fight Vargas was the right move financially and as someone just pointed out, both were on the downside so the match was intriguing.

I think the mistake was that he didn't figh PBF after Vargas and instead, took his vacation. Maybe he thought that PBF wasn't all that and that he could (re)-make a name for himself.

Now that PBF is on top, I sense jealousy. Honestly, Mosely had a skill set so comparable to PBF (maybe not defensively, but he might have a little more offense). I think the jealously stems from the fact that Mayweather is now on top and is having a career that Mosely could have had for himself.

They both moved up in weight classes except Mayweather has been more successful and more intelligent. PBF moved up and took titles as he saw fit. He's now to the point where he can call his own shot and he will end up fighting whom he wants and most likely retire undefeated. Mosely, on the other hand, went up to fast after defeating DLH. Taking on Winy Wright was silly. It was ambitious, but he was soundly defeated, twice. That sent his career on the backburner.

Honestly, he's never really recovered from a main stream point of view. Now he's resorting to classless tactics to try to get fights. I'm trying to think of another time when a fighter approached another fight IN THE RING right after a fight like that. In the post fight conference, I can understand. Hell, it worked for Clubber Lang and even Antonio Tarver; it could have worked for Shane. Now, I won't fault PBF for not fighting him. Every decision you make in your life has repercussions.

Shane made his decisions and now he's dealing with it.

Well, we know all the reasons why Mosely didn't fight Floyd then. But why not fight now? Mosely's win over Maragrito doesn't make give him just as much credibility as Marquez had? Cotto and Paq are tied up, as well as Paul Williams. Mosely seems like the best fight for Floyd out there right now.

DLH didn't fight PBF until 2007. I don't think fighting PBF in 2005 would have hurt DLH's money fight with DLH 2 yrs later.

Undefeated Mosley got beat up by Vernon Forrest 2 times in a row then fought fought DLH 2 fights later.

No matter what after the Gatti PPV win a lot of people would have been interested in seeing PBF fight guys like Mosley and DLH. Even if he would have lost to Mosley which I don't believe would have happend. It would not have hurt the Mayweather vd DLH payday. People would have just thought tha Mosley was better then both of them. But would have still been interested in watching them both fight.

I agree with you. He should definatly fight Mosley. He is old, has overrated wins over Mayorga and Margarito. Has been outboxed by both Winky and Cotto. He is very very beatable. Has not faced anyone with PBF's speed, relfexes and quickness and at his age he won't be able to keep up.

Then after PBF wins public perception might actually overrate PBFs win over him giving PBF to much credit.

Which would max his hype and payday for Cotto or Pacman. It would be a very good buisness desicion to make this fight happen.

I honestly think that Shane fighting Vargas, although Vargas being shot was a much tougher fight than floyd. Two reasons, Vargas had the weight and strenght advantage.

I am not saying that floyd cant outbox shane but if shane and floyd fought each other, it would be the first time in years that Shane would come in as the naturallly bigger man. So how much would floyd's speed really bother shane is an unknown variable. Shane has definitely slowed down. But he will connect to on floyd's chin at some point. How floyd will react is an unknown variable as well.

    Are you insane?

By the way, how do you come to any conclusion with 'unknown variables'?

Mosley got $3 million for the first fight and another nice payday for the rematch.

Mayweather was originally supposed to fight Judah in November of 2005, but it was put on the shelf when Top Rank won the purse bid for Rahman-Klitschko in that month, and they wanted to put that on HBO PPV. Mayweather ended up fighting Mitchell in November 05', and Judah had the fight with Baldomir in January 2006. Judah was expected to blow through Baldomir, but he lost. King and Arum decided to put on the Mayweather-Judah bout anyway in April.
