In all honesty as I watched Naz's career unfold as a grown up it became apparent that despite my initial adoration the guy acted like a complete and utter twat , he took great pleasure in belittling and humiliating fighters who never in a million years had a chance of beating him so watching him get his arse handed to him during the majority of the fight and the final insult of him getting frog marched cllean across the ring from one side of it to the other and getting face planted into the turn buckle was a thing of beauty to me and raised more than a slight chuckle , I do admit you sound a decent enough fella but did having a total donkey as a childhood idol have much of a negative affect on you later in life mate ?.
" I do admit you sound a decent enough fella but did having a total donkey as as a childhood idol have much of a negative affect on you later life mate ?" LMFAO - man you made me laugh hard. That was epic. I am speechless. I guess when you put it like that, I have to agree, Naseem was an overconfident wanker, but just because Mike Tyson is my fav fighter and I hang his photo in my gym wall doesn't mean I approve of his antics and his persona outside the ring. I am drawn to entertaining fighters, it stops there really. I don't condone any of the bull****, I just like to watch entertaining fights. I can totally understand how you took joy in watching Barerra humble naseem. And to answer your question, no negative impact on my life whatsover, I have been described as a kind, loving human being, totally professional, and my ex girlfriends still check up on me from time to time.
Fantastic news mate, ( it warms the cockles of my heart to hear you turned out to be such a well adjusted young man after your initial start in life ).... Lmfao Only joking kid i guess I can see the appeal in Hamed to a youngster as he was defunatley Brash and Bold etc and had skills in spades man .
Thats right, he cut a ridiculous amount of weight before the fight. Barerras management knew Naseem 2 months before the fight was in bad shape and unfit. With limited training and living the playboy lifestyle he just got beat. He relied his power would catch Barerra but he was in no condition to even land.
LOL, yeah it was just like Michael Jackson really, he was enigmatic, the ring entrance, the dance moves midfight. Obviously a kid was going to be captivated by that, but still even as an adult, gotta admire the mans swagger and style.
Well at the risk of upsetting anyone I will have to respectfully agree to disagree with that as I saw him being interviewed recently and he still has that small man , twatiness ( is that a real word) about him .
to be fair he did beat some solid world class opposition a few times. BUt you are spot on that the "mock arrogance" turned into a real form.
I think Barrera had a little something to do with it. At this point nobody can say, with certainty, that the outcome would have been any different had Naz trained properly. Barrera was an awesome fighter.
I agree, he still is. In real life I doubt I would get along with his mentality or personality. But I still like watching Youtube Highlight videos with the funky music, and the ring somersaults.
I was a big Naz fan, but I think Barrera would have beaten him regardless of how seriously Naz was training. Barrera's technique and timing were exquisite, his style was all wrong for Naz. There's no shame in it, Barrera was a hell of a fighter.
He was so full of himself, no trainer could tell him how to fight. Not even Manny Stewart WHO very fast was ditched in a corner when he was supposed to take over.....Hamed was so smart and great ( In his own mind). That he didnt believe he had to train properly to fight Guys like Morales and Barrera....Somehow I think he would have lost no matter what. as entertaining as his style were, sooner or later it would cost him....
The better fighter won. Its as simple as that. I was a big Hamed fan myself. I loved his style but i always wanted him to settle down a little and mix in some orthadox work, especially defense. But thats not how he rolled, he was never going to change and he fought with an exciting style that was set up to knock people out. But he always ran the risk of losing rounds and when he came up against a legend in Barrera he struggled to land his unorthadox power shots and while he was doing that and being all messy the Mexican was working and grinding away, generally getting the better of Hamed and picking up the rounds as he went along. Its a day i knew would come eventually. And if you followed Hamed through his career you would worry about how he handled his career after a defeat.
That arrogance was a factor in the car crash that destroyed and very nearly ended the life of an innocent motorist in Sheffield. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/naseem-broke-every-bone-in-my-body-624831 As others have said, even if his hands hadn't been injured and he'd listened to his coaches MAB may have had his number. Naz didn't help himself though, he wouldn't listen to anyone.
Naz was no longer the same fighter of old. Didn't wok hard and didn't have the hunger. Also, since his split with Ingle, non of the trainers could really offer anything because of his unique style (the legendary Manny Steward included) so his unique style just got watered down and compromised. I think he would have beat Barrera on a points decision. Wouldn't have KO'd him (unless a great flush punch connected) as Barrera was a great technical fighter, would've been wary of the power and would have fought a technical fight. Naz's come back fight after Barrera 1 year later he was horrible. Easily won but fought and beat a nobody, looked horrible, no timing, got caught (recall he went down in although not counted) And I'm a massive Naz fan.
