Why did no one tell Berto the shoulder roll doesn't work against southpaws??

Did I say you can not use it against a fighter with opposing stance?

I stated it is not as effective as when you are facing a fighter who has same stance - like orthodox vs. orthodox.

It is just a technical summary. Now, a fighter adjust and it would not cover waht I am saying. An orthodox fighter who is shoulder rolling is vulnerable to the southpaws left because the placement of his feet are more squared. Meaning that the dominant left hand is connecting to the trunk, face evrytime he covers the distance (see your 3rd GIF). And since he is more squared, his arc of swing is shorter, thus reaching the target faster. On equally fast fighters, it would be an advantage.

And your gif did not exactly show a shoulder roll, because the shoulder is supposed to negate the punch. He shoulder rolled but it is on the other side which he should do it. Commonsense would tell you that when he placed his arms up (3rd gif), it was not blocking anything that Corley was throwing. The gloves blocked the punch thoiugh (might have connected partially because it made Mayweather move backward or it may just be the force of the punch pushing on the gloves, it is hard to tell)

The second gif is not a shoulder roll.

James Toney's shoulder roll is more versatile. He tends to be more squared and rolls both shoulders when in close quarters. But it is easier when you have a bodybuilt of charles Barkley, because the shoulders are so big.

 

Shoulder Scroll is awesome and all but it's not BULLET PROOF! A stray bullet can get in there to do damage.
