Why did nobody care about Pacquiao until the DLH fight?

    Pacquiao was a relatively big draw well before the Hoya fight. However, the combination of beating a popular fighter like Hoya and being billed as legitimate threat to beat Mayweather vaulted Pacquiao into another stratosphere.

    Because after he beat Oscar badly, he was immediately pumped up to be the guy to finally beat Mayweather.. That's all...

    So why did he only make 500,000 grand against Barrera? Was it because it was at featherweight?

    Barrera is a much better fighter than DLH (and very entertaining) so one would think the purse wouldn't be that low in comparison.

    Barrera is one of the best and most entertaining fighters of all time.

    Yet somehow he makes 52 times more to fight Timothy freakin' Bradley.

    Barrera is not a much better fighter.
    Oscar De La Hoya was the sole Cash Cow from the mid 90's to the early part of 2000's.
    Oscar De La Hoya was the most famous boxer Pacquiao had fought.
    If you knew the history of boxing, the money usually starts at LW, but it gets bigger at WW.

    Yeah because he was still good.. If you're good and beating good fighters, you'll get paid.. He didn't go to superstar status until he was supposed to be a threat to Floyd...

    The same reason nobody cared about Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosely, or Floyd Mayweather before they fought De La Hoya.

    Not really.. It was half and half on him.. Many thought it was too much for him.. After the fight Floyd was immediately brought up..

    The difference between Floyd's jump to superstar status and Pac's, is that Floyd beat Oscar and people was trying to find someone to beat Floyd, when Pac did it people only wanted Pac to beat Floyd...

    Don't think you understand. Pacquiao was given 15 million before he ever stepped into the ring with DLH.

    He signed on the dotted line and then the 15 million.

    I agree with this. But now that they have fought, I think both of their numbers will drop.
