wow, another thread from old big reg dissing pacquiao.

surprise surprise. the only thing big about reg, is that he probably has a big toe compared to his brain.

Wrong. JMM would get beatdown because the fight would most likely be at 140/147, where he has no buisness being at...especially 147. If Marquez, at 140/147, was as great as he was at 126/130, you best believe he would still give this Pacquiao all sorts of problems.

As for the thread, Morales won because he was the better fighter that night. Simple as that.

Erik still had enough in the tank back then although I reckon he was already past his best. His career is littered with absolute wars and watching him fight in his prime never gets boring :)

This post should be made a sticky here in a thread where many dumbass people are claiming that Morales will usually beat Pacquaio prime for prime, or at 130.

Morales beat him in the first fight, but Pacquiao came back to be the first man to TKO Morales.

EM was better fighter at that time plain and simple.

but what most people get wrong about that fight is that some people discredits pac's resume more by saying that "not only did he lose, but he lost to an over-the-hill morales". it's true that EM is not in his "peak/prime" form in that first fight, but people...or should i say haters, tend to forget that pac was still considered green that time. if you consider both fighters peak form (given that pac fully reached his peak form around the hatton-ODLH-cotto fights), IMO erik was still closer to his peak form compared to pac.

when did "morales won against pac because he's the better man that night" became equated as being "shitted-on in poll threads"? :huh

piece of advice "ex-champ". make a poll on "who would rate higher on the ATG list if both pac and pbf retires today" or "is NALLEGE an ex-world-champion-wannabe-attention-*****-***"... and you will see what getting shitted-on in poll threads. :good

So that is why Pac was the 6-5 favorite going in to this fight. Do you idiots even have a ****ing clue? This was supposed to be Pac's coming out party dumb asses. He stopped Barrera who turned around and beat Morales. I guess Pac winning titles in 3 weight classes before that was just Pac being green. No you dumb sacks of ****. He was the same mother****er through and through. He just roided up after the second Marquez fight and getting that stamina boost increased his fight game b/c of his style. Back then he could not throw punches like he does now. Its ****ing plain to see if you watch the fights.

And again. Read any article leading up to that fight you new boxing fan sack of **** or ******* or whatever you are. Morales was on the decline and was coming off a loss. Pac was on the rise and was the heir apparent. ****ing delusional.

Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao square off on March 19 and it will shock no one if their battle produces an early candidate for fight of the year. All 14,500 seats at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas are expected top be sold at prices of up to $400. And HBO will likely generate great pay-per-view “buys” - even at $44.95 a pop - as both fighters have huge, loyal followings in their native countries (Mexico and the Philippines, respectively).
So what’s going to happen when these two superstars meet in the ring? Oddsmakers have made Pacquiao a 6-5 betting favorite and results against common opponent Marco Antonio Barrera would seem to support that line. Barrera was awarded the decision in two of his three epic battles with Morales but was completely dominated by Pacquiao. Advantage Pacquiao.

The Morales-Pacquiao bout will be fought at 130 pounds. Pacquiao weighed 106 for his first pro fight and has never tipped the scales above 126. Morales started out at 123 and weighed in at 130 for each of his last four bouts. Advantage Morales.

Morales stands 5’8” and has a 72” reach. Pacquiao is 5’6” with a 67” reach. Advantage Morales.

Pacquiao is 26 years old with 43 professional fights under his belt (39-2-2, 31 knockouts). At 28, Morales is only two years older than Pacquiao but Morales is an old 28 with many fierce battles among his 49 pro bouts (47-2, 34 KOs). Plus, Morales is less than four months removed from a physically and emotionally draining loss to arch rival Marco Antonio Barrera in his last bout – a bout in which Morales often appeared sluggish and unable to get his punches off. Advantage Pacquiao.
Morales, having demonstrated the ability to either box or brawl with equal success, is a “complete” fighter. Pacquiao employs a more one-dimensional style but what a dimension it is! Pound-for-pound, Pacquiao is perhaps the most devastating puncher in the sport today. Just ask Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez and Fahsan 3K Battery, who were collectively sent to the canvas a total of nine times in Pacquiao’s last three fights. So Morales has the edge in boxing ability while Pacquiao gets the nod in the power department. And therein lies the key to this fight – whichever man is able to dictate the style of fight will likely emerge the victor.

Morales needs to use his reach and superior boxing skills to jab and keep Pacquiao at a safe distance to avoid getting hit with clean shots. Pacquiao needs to do what he does best – put relentless pressure on Morales and draw him into a brawl which will neutralize Morales’ advantages. As good as Morales is, he sometimes lacks discipline in the ring and can be lured into fighting a style which is not to his advantage. The moment of truth in this fight will be when Pacquiao lands a clean shot or two on Morales. If, at that point, Morales is able to stick to boxing he can win on points. But the bet here is that once Morales is hit, his warrior heart will take over and the game plan will go out the window. Based on his track record, it’s hard to envision Morales being able to resist the temptation to trade punches with his smaller opponent. That’s great news for fight fans who love action, but bad news for Morales. Prediction: Pacquiao by TKO in 11.

I think Erik Morales will win by Knockout in the 11th round. Manny Pacquiao will come out like gang busters trying to make it a fast paced scrap and Morales, if he can weather it, will impose his size, will and overall ability on Pacquiao in a tough to score but exciting scrap until Morales is able to time him hurt him and eventually stop him late in the fight. Manny Pacquiao is a heck of a puncher but we don't know about his chin and what he does when he can't stop the other guy. If he thinks Morales will roll over and let him rush in and impose his will like Pacquiao did vs. Marco Antonio Barrera and round 1 and 10 vs. Juan Manuel Marquez then he's making a fatal error.
Pride and ego will carry the day for Erik Morales.- Aladdin Freeman

I think this will be a fight that lives up to it's hype. These fighters only fight going forward, and I got a feeling that Pacquiao will be too powerful for Morales. If anyone saw the way Manny overpowered Barrera, they know that he can do the same to Morales. Morales will land a good share of shots, but Pacquiao seems to have a chin made of steel. I pick Pacquiao by late stoppage. - Tom Dickey

I like Manny Pacquiao in this fight, he will come out like a machine and will take it to El Terrible. He will wear Morales out, before the referee stops the bout around the 8th round. So, I believe this awesome fight will end in the 8th round by TKO. - José Hernandez

The pick here is Pacquiao - speed with power gets my call. Could be a quickie, but the guess is decision win. - George Elsasser

This is a match made in heaven for all fight fans. I am going to go with Erik Morales by a unanimous decision. Due to his big fight experience and the fact that a second loss in a row would be devastating, Morales will find a way to win. I'm not taking anything away from Manny Pacquiao but the Juan Manuel Marquez fight did leave me wondering and Morales is a huge step up. - Ed Ludwig

I think Pacquiao is going to solidify himself as one of the very best
Pound For Pound in the world by stopping Morales late in the fight.
Needless to say, Morales knows how to handle himself when this becomes
a war, but I think The Pac Man has too much firepower. There is a
first time for everything, right? - Mike Leanardi

Here we have 2 tough warriors. The question is, can Pacquiao match up with the likes of Erik Morales? Morales is a super talented fighter and though he has gone through some incredible battles with some of the best, he still has the strength and sharpness to take on all comers.
The poop on Manny Pacquiao is that he is a one dimensional fighter, your basic slugger. This was evident in his draw against Juan Manuel Marquez.
Morales is one of the craftiest fighters in boxing today and when it comes to ring generalship, he is the master. Pacquiao is going to have to add to his game. Is he on the same level as Morales?---Not yet. Morales wins by decision. - Kris Lake

My heart says Morales but I think Pacquiao will be a bit too much. Pacquiao TKO11- Chris Robinson

This fight is certainly not an easy one to call and should prove to be a tightly contested match-up. I believe the outcome of the fight will depend almost entirely on the strategy each fighter chooses. If Morales decides to simply outbox Pacquiao and stay away from any exchanges where he could be forced to trade punches then I believe he can earn a hard fought unanimous decision. However, I don't believe that Morales will be disciplined enough to stay away from these exchanges and so he will leave himself prone to Pacquiao's harder punches.

Pacquiao on the other hand has to do what he always does, which is press the action and try to impose his will on his opponent. He, too, can't afford to be a one dimensional fighter and simply rely on his straight right hand. He will need to show Morales something different and if you believe the rumors he may have something of that nature planned already. In the end I believe that Pacquiao is just too strong for Morales who probably never faced someone as powerful and intense as Pacquiao. I predict Manny Pacquiao will win by a late stoppage. I also predict that this will be a Fight of the Year candidate, but that's almost a given. - Oleg Bershadsky

Good match up, tough to call. Manny Pacquiao by split decision. - Danny Serratelli

I really like Morales as a person and consider him a friend but I lean toward Pacquiao because he's faster, punches just as hard and he's left handed plus he has a style that will give Morales fits. He's Barrera with more speed and more power and less worn than either one. My heart is with Erik but my choice is Pacquiao by decision in another war for Morales. Who knows how much Eric has left, this might be the night that all the wars with Barrera come into play. It should be a great entertaining fights for true fight fans. - Jeff Mayweather

Manny by late round KO - Kenny Perrault

Let me elaborate a bit... This fight can go either way.

Scenario 1: Morales will use his reach, experience and tenacity to outscore
and break down Pacquaio as he not only takes Pacman's shots but tests
    whether Pacman can take his.
    Scenario 2: Or...Pacquiao KO's him in the 2nd.

The reality is, I do NOT know how this fight will go and it seems silly to
pretend to have a clue. Both are dangerous in their own right and neither
deserve to be overlooked or underrated. Bottom line, I expect a hell of a
fight. - Frank Gonzalez Jr. Sharkie's Machine

I think you have to go with Pacquiao, but not because he's younger and faster or because Freddy Roach has a great strategy of backing Morales up all night. All of those things may be great, but Morales is a high enough caliber fighter that he's going to be prepared to counter all of those disadvantages. I'm going with Pacquiao for the simple reason that Morales should be more fired up, more hungry, from the loss to Barrera in November. But he just doesn't seem to be. If Pac-Man can stay focused through the middle rounds (and stop worrying about his gloves and his socks and every other little distraction), he should win a decision despite a probable late surge from Morales. - Jocelyn Saurini

Morales has seen his best days pass by in boxing, due to too many hard fights in recent times. Therefore, I pick Manny "The Tsunami" Pacquiao to win knockout in ten rounds or less. - Oscar Borrás

Manny Pacquiao v Erik Morales is that rarest of fights that comes under the epic title Super fight.. This one lives up to its Hype. Erik never seems to have an easy fight and I love his true fan friendly style, however he seems to me to have had one too many hard wars , This is one of the reasons why I do think Manny may have the freshness , and speed to give Erik extreme trouble.. Both can dig deep in the trenches yet I see the Barrera fights catching up with Morales, and on this rare occasion he may just fall short on not just speed, but the opposition has great power and a style that may end up giving the Tijuana fighter fits of trouble. Erik is a favorite of mine , but I have to put my dollars on Pacquiao.. probably via decision ..on another fabulous Morales night to remember. - Stephen Jones

Excuses are just that. Yes there was the blood issue that probably affected Manny mentally but at the end of the day EM was just the better man....just like in the rematch PAC was the better man....as well as the rubber match.

Good post!:good And you're right. This was a defining momemnt in the evolution of Manny b/c PAC's natrual ability of speed, reflexes, power and stamina were just not enough to overcome SKILL! And the right game plan to beat Manny. I think MAB probably would have beaten Manny in a rematch as well if he didn't loose to EM b/c Roach wouldn't have made it a point to try to make Manny multi demensional like he is today.
