It's astonishing that Cooper would actually turn down a title shot. I'd be surprised if he was making that kind of money in Britain.

I can't find it on Box Rec now....but a copy of the 1959 newspaper article quoted Cus D'mato that the London - Cooper fight was very good...that Cooper wasn't going to dictate financial terms to the Champion (Cooper offered $75,000, he wanted $150,000) and Cus would take fighting London if need be.

I've mentioned this before (sorry for repeating myself) but I'm from Indy and my dad and uncle Ray actually went to the Fairgrounds that night to see Floyd and Brian along with a Korean war vet that has become my baseball/boxing buddy. He said Ingo was there with his actress girlfriend taking pictures throughout the fight.

I guess Patterson fought him because Cleve Williams was terrified of Patterson and turned down a title shot. Yeah right.

    Yeah, that handsome devil!
I saw a movie I hadn't seen in years a couple of weeks ago: "All The Young Men" 1960 between Floyd and Ingo's two fights.
Sidney Poitier/Alan Ladd/Mort Sahl/etc...A Korean War squad of Americans and a few UN forces holding off the Commies at a Korean monastery. Ingo was in it and, actually, did a real good job of acting. Of course who can forget Floyd's "Wild, Wild, West" episode playing a homesteader helping Jim and Artimus fight off greedy landowners. Early, they're all fighting 'bar room brawlers' outside a saloon and Floyd gets to dispatch a couple of cowboy thugs with that numbing left hook!

Ingo was always rated above Liston. In no way shape or form was Sonny more deserving than Ingo for a title shot in 1959. Then rematch clauses (perfectly legal at that time) kept everyone sidelined until the trilogy was resolved.

Fair enough Liston was the outstanding contender during the trilogy but he could not eclipse or outrank an ex champion with a rematch clause.

It is a myth that Sonny was an uncrowned champion anytime before he fought Floyd.

One of the most interesting trivia's I bring up is that from May 59 until March 66 (almost seven years!) who was the ONLY HW to be in a Heavyweight Title fight besides Floyd/Ingo/Sonny/Clay-Ali?
