Why did Prince Nas retire so soon?

I was a huge fan of his from the 1st time I went to see him in the flesh in 1994, but ended up hating him shortly after he won a world title for his hideous personality and pathetic antics. He was still a tremendously naturally talented boxer though. I think he genuinely believed he would never be defeated, and when he lost, and lost in the fashion he did do, he just lost heart. He knew after the Barrera fight that to beat the Mexican he would have to train like never before, work on his defence like never before, and I think he knew even then he might not be able to beat a guy of Barrera's quality, I think he didn't want to take the risk in case he lost and then he would never be able to regain the aura of invincibility he had in his own head. When 1st faced with the harsh side of boxing, he had neither the courage to go after Barrera nor the hunger to dedicate himself to training and improving anymore when there was now a real possibility of failure and of having it confirmed that he had in fact come up against a guy better than him.

why people praise it so highly was that berrera stuck with his basics and used a great gameplan. i feel some mugs have seen people post it up and just guessed it was a complete ownage/exspotion/pwnge (<atsch )

 

That's bollocks mate.

Barreras name was made before he fought Hamed but he wasn't the showbiz personality Hamed was. Hamed was well managed and managed to avoid real challenges his whole career up to that point (Frank Warren managed remember)

He only fought Barrera because Barrera had just lost to Morales - had he fought Morales instead he'd have been KO'd. He took the perceived 'easy' route and found that even that route was a bridge too far. As soon as the fight was signed I put a heavy bet on Barrera to win on points and I was proved right. Hamed was over-rated beyond belief and was visibly slipping for several fights before the Barrera match, it was easy money :good

 

Hamed won 3 rounds maximum in that fight. It wasn't an ownage but it was a CLEAR win.

He had 1 fight after the Barrera fight, didn't look good enough there and didn't get the result he was expecting(a KO) so he basically stopped. Don't count on a come back.

 

Which is EXACTLY why Hamed fought him, that was my point. And Hamed still got owned. Doesn't that tell you something about Hameds standing?

If Hamed had any balls back then he'd have made a big fight with Morales but he chose the easier option and lost. That's the fact of the matter.

 

People were hyping him up as the next Julio Caesar Chavez before the Junior Jones fights... Yes, he lost them, and lost that "aura" - but it's not as if he generally "lost" to EM in the first fight. Most people thought he won that won.

Barrera would of UNDOUBTEDLY still been an ATG with or without Hamed. Against such a hyped, over-the-top personality but yet with still limited ability (outside talent at being unorthodox and power), he was able to prove it moreso to the casual fans who only know the boxers who get hyped because of their actions outside of the ring.

 

i don't think you understand his atg status was acheived after the hamed fight that was the start of it. People look back at barrera after all his great fights and think why wasn't hamed so bothered about this great fighter, at the time he wasn't the great fighter he is recognised as now.

 

No - because yes, he finished Hamed... But he also fought EM two more times, won a few more world titles in other weight classes against good-to-very-good fighters, and even out of his prime was decent against guys like JMM.

But to suggest that Hamed made his greatness shows that you, my friend, are the one that does not understand. Hamed helped; well, Hamed's HYPE (appropriate or not) helped. Yes. But made him great, HELL NO.

Anyone who has seen little prince big fight can clearly see his heart wasnt in it, after he lose to barrera he really didnt give a ****

 

That's the legacy of the fight, that Barrera owned Hamed, but it's not reality.

Barrera clearly won, but it WAS still a close fight. People hated, hated, hated Hamed.. and this was the fight that made MAB a legend.. don't let people convince you otherwise, it was this fight that made MAB a superstar.

 

nas had talked himself so much that once he lost he lost both his pride and that aura about him and once its gone its hard for fighters to recover
