The Gracie's seemed to take it personally, I mean they tryed fives times to beat the guy and all failed so why did Rickson, who is said to be the greatest MMA Gracie in history, not take him on ? P.S Also who whould you of favoured if had of happed ?
His son died when they were trying to set up the fight. I don't think he fought after that. I think Saku would have beaten him actually, but if Rickson is as good as they say then he would have dominated and subbed Saku.
Not sure how old his son was, but I'd guess early 20's. 2 stories either an OD or a motorcycle crash. Not sure which one is true. Motorcycle crash is the official line. His name was Rockson Gracie.
19 years old... Motorcycle crash from what I know....Rickson only discovered his death three weeks later......
As already said, Rickson`s son died & he never fought again. On the fight itself, even tho Saku is one of my all time fav fighters, I might lean towards Rickson... the reason is that Saku had a much better wrestling level than all the Gracies he fought, he decided if he wanted to go to the mat or not, not them... now I`m not saying Rickson is a better wrestler than Sakuraba but he can at least make him work much harder. I see this fight going for ages & once two men get tired they start using their main strengths more & more rather than their overall set of skills... that means both men grappling the majority of the time & as good a submittion fighter Sakuraba was, nobody submits Rickson Gracie. Rickson via choke-out in round 37 (Sak doesn`t tap, he passes out Machida style) :good
Rickson was soured on fighting for Pride after the Royler/Sakuraba fight was stopped without Royler ever submitting. Rickson knew if he fought in Pride that the Japanese would use the same tactics to their advantage to try to rob him of victory - just look at the first Royce/Yoshida fight for another example of Japanse chicanery. That's why he went to fight for the fledgling Kingdom organization instead.
I see you have the shark jiujitsu avy. Does that mean you're a Relson fighter? I know this because I am a blue belt under Relson.
That happened often in Pride, I remember watching the Royce Yoshida fight, the match was finished due to a 'submission' there was a big argument in the ring, then a white haired Japanese man restarted the fight.... maybe it was fixed and they didn't tell both fighters.
No I've not even started Jiu Jitsu yet, was getting ready to join the Jiu Jitsu school near me, but had to have a operation so thats set me back big time, defiantly gonna starts as soon as I feel 100% so I can really put everything into it. Thats cool that you made it to blue, how hard did you find it to learn, is it tedious, or did you find it easy to retain what you saw in class.
sounds more like a duck by rickson. royler was going nowhere and he would of gotten a compound fracture or serious muscle damage.
