I go bak to the island every year and visit family, and the rumor around la isla was that papa trinidad was in dire financial need. i hope this is really not the case as felix and his father hav made millions . but to alot of people on the island this was just a last hurra h payday for tito and pops.

Those are the precise and exact reasons for having picked Trinidad at this point plus the fact that both have the name and the fans to have made a boatload of money. There is one other reason that I consider - Tito was almost 100% sure to come fighting the way he did and to lose a decision in Roy's mind... Tito Trinidad on the HBO page: "No excuses but I took two years and eight months off... Roy was very fast and strong, he showed speed and he took my best punches. I take nothing away from him but if I could have avoided the knockdowns I think I could have won the fight.'' - that's like General Custer saying if he knew what Sitting Bull had in mind at the Little Big Horn everything would have gone differently.

He didn't pick Trinidad. Tito challenged him, he accepted.

Tito also thought like some around here that Jones chin was so suspect that he would KO him ..

Didn't look all that easy to me and there are easier fights than Hatton. The reason Jones chose Trinidad was the same reason Mayweather chose Hatton, they draw the fans. Lots of fans means lots of money.

roy took this fight because he knew he could win. he knew trinidad was too small for him. trinidad had the big name, and fighting in new york city, he knew the gate would be big, as well as PPV buys, considering trinidad is still popular with the latin comminuty. all of that spells big money for a easy fight.

Regardless of who picked who, Roy saw Big$$$$$$ & low risk ratio. Easy decision for Roy.
