I suppose he'd be a guaranteed winner in that fight, then again he'd be a guaranteed loser too.

Roach is maneuvering to ditch Khan. I think the Ariza sacking, motivated by nothing more than penny-pinching and coupled with the general incompetence of Khan's management team and all round lack of development by the fighter himself has made Freddie re-assess their relationship. Maybe Roach, especially after the McCloskey debacle is starting to believe that he cannot take Khan any further and is angling to cut his losses softened by a rather hefty financial inducement....... Manny vrs Khan and we all know whose corner he will be in!!!!

Unbelievable some people can come up with speculation like this after a one offhand comment. If it's the comment i'm thinking of, that's ridiculous! As someone said, Roach just stated that whoever unifies the titles will move to 147 to face someone like Pacquaio. Hardly means he is making a move to ditch Khan in the future

He said "When Amir beats Bradley he should move to 147 and fight someone like Pac" very strange love to know what his motive is

I don't see how any can consider the comments strange, I think Team Khan have been pretty clear they want to unify 140, then move to welterweight and take on one of the two P4P kings.

Its proabably just dawned on Roach post McCloskey how much of a c**t Amir is, so he'll get his boy sort him out.

BoumaScene.com: Your thoughts on the British press quoting you concerning a potential bout between Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao?

FR: I said that in very jovial, joking manner, and everyone laughed. I laughed. Everybody knew I was joking. You know, 147 pounds is a weight class that I think that Amir Khan could fight. But he would fight the Floyd Mayweathers or a guy like a Victor Ortiz, who just beat Andre Berto. But when I said that Amir would fight Manny Pacquiao, it was a joke, and Amir laughed also.

They knew that I was joking. I mean, if Amir went to 147, Manny Pacquiao is the biggest one there. So, you know, I sort of threw him into the mix. But they will never fight each other. They are such good friends, you know, that that fight would never happen. It just won't happen.

BoumaScene.com: But if it did happen, you have gone on record as saying that you would not choose to work Amir Khan's corner over Manny Pacquiao's corner, correct?

    FR: Yes.

I find the 'friend' line a bit grating.

Didn't Pac stop doing certain things with Amir and said the reason was a potential fight?

I assume that's it just an understandable example of hyping Khan. Although Roach is the trainer he also has a responsibility, as does everyone in a camp, to constantly sound bite their fighter and talk him up.

However the cynic within me also thinks that there's something not right in that camp. Khan thanked Roach in the post fight and it almost reminded me of a politician commending one of their colleagues who they've privately shafted, it was almost on par with De La Hoya commending Roach at the post fight press conference. Boxing can be very strange at times...
