no, but he did get knocked out by Hasim Rahman.. who got koed by Oleg Maskaev.. who got koed by Samuel Peter.. not saying that Peter is better than Lewis, but your arguments are just as sucky.

Didnt he also offer Tyson a fight but Tyson wanted no part of it? I also heard a potential fight with Holyfield was being discussed.

Can't really blame him for nicking a belt from the weakest guy and getting the hell outta there

We are talking about a guy that started at 160 here, he achieved what he wanted to

    1. He started at 154. So that is more impressive.

    2. He offered Lennox a fight, who didnt want it. It would have been a lose - lose situation for Lennox, so you cant blame him.

Exactly, he could barely make 200lbs with all the proper training and would be brutalized in a fight with Lewis.

Roy couldve been a successfull heavyweight, but there is no way he could carry on calling himsefl heavyweight champ, when Lennox Lewis was right next to him.

Imo he should have dropped to cruiser, won a title there and asked Tarver to move up. Its the drop in weight which finished RJJ off.

Tarver was the right man at the right time, prime for prime he doesnt even land a punch on Jones Jr.

This is the truth. Lewis said during an HBO telecast that he was offered somewhere in the ballpark of 25 mil to face Jones and it was seriously discussed before Lewis told Jones that he was unsure if he was ever going to fight again (and subsequently didn't) and therefore turned the offer down. Lewis would have blasted Jones.

Jones only wanted big name huge fights if he was going to stay at HW, so only Tyson and Lewis were going to qualify. He did make some rather stupid comments during a Klitscho fight, but he never had any intention of fighting them (or beating them)

Jones never defended his WBA heavyweight title because he knew he had no chance against any heavyweight apart from the mediocre Ruiz.

In that year, 2003, he had no chance against Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko, Chris Byrd, Corrie Sanders, Vitali Klitschko. He could have defeated contenders like Jameel McCline or Kirk Johnson, but those fights didn't gave money.

Considering Ruiz has a ledger thats littered with names Jones achievement bearing in mind he put on a clinic was definitly a massive achievement irrespective of the belt.

i dont believe for a second that Rjj ever made a good-faith offer to Lewis. The reason he fought Ruiz was b/c Ruiz caved in to EVERY demand Roy wanted.

Roy missed a big opportunity at heavyweight. He shouldve fought Byrd (a winnable fight, although I wouldve picked Byrd), and then Lewis. If he lost to Lewis, so what? he shouldnt have been up that high anyway.

Actually, there was an offer on the table for Corrie Sanders to fight him, but Sanders turned it down, because the WBO said they would strip him of his title, should he fight Jones. Still, I agree that this would have been a very dangerous fight for Roy, especially facing a quick handed south paw who had just utterly smoked Wlad Klitschko. As for the rest of the bunch, I think Jones might have had a fair chance of beating Chris Byrd who probably wasn't powerful enough to KO Jones, and who had plenty of speed, but was not quite as fast. Lewis, was pretty much exiting the room at the time, therefore, was not going to be a future match. Wlad and Vitali would have been good ones to avoid. They were too big for Jones, and their marketability in 2003, had temporarily diminished due to some of their recent losses, making them not worth the risk.
