I agree, but did Jones want Sanders?

And in hindsight, Sanders had more than just a chance against Jones i think. Considering Jones got layed out by a southpaw overhand left in his next fight, exactly the punch that Sanders is specialised in, but with much more power, speed and reach.

And although Jones probably didn't even think about losing, there would've been a lot more honor in getting knocked out by someone 60 pounds heavier than you than Antonio Tarver.

    Exactly right.

He came back way too quick for light heavy.

Perhaps sounding like excuses to many, but I honestly think he'd only have 1 loss if he took his time coming back to LHW from HW, I really do

From what I read on Corrie Sanders's biolog in boxrec, he was offered a shot at Jones, which I assumed meant that Jones's people approached Sanders' managment with an offer. I don't know why Jones would take such a huge risk against a fighter who essentially dwarfed him, and was coming off of one of the most brutal KO victories in recent times. Not to mention, Sanders was not a terribly well recognized house hold name. My only guess, is that perhaps Jones people felt Sanders was too slow and crude to catch Jones, and that Roy's ego would not stagger his confidence going in. I agree with you that this would have been a terribly dangerous fight for Jones, as well as being a much safer fight for Sanders, as opposed to Vitali Klitschko. I also tend to think that this was a bad move on the part of the WBO by giving Corrie an altimadum. They would have been better off allowing the fight, since it would have generated big money for everyone, and left the winner with the rights as a possible lineal champion claimant, given the current state of the division in 2003. This would have been to the WBO's advantage in my opinion.
