Sammy[the clutch]Angott retired for good in 1950. Since 1943, Angott had about 35 bouts til 1950 when he retired.

Hi Burt, Angott originally retired in 43 but came out of retirement in 44 to resume his career. I just wondered if anyone knew why??

He announced his retirement and gave up the title in late 42 or early 43 because of troubles with his hands. It was very short lived though. He was back in the ring within a couple of months.

bb, Sammy the Clutch fascinates me for some reason...well, i should say for the reason that he was able to be the first to beat Willie Pep..an oddly fascinating bout for me..I wish it existed on film.
