hold a press conference saying that he is not the wbc's puppet, and will no longer represent them...only the ring.. goes on to avoid PIROG, STURM and pretty much the real tough comp, only to fight on the euro/brit bum tour, while jr takes on the tougher comp, and looks great in doing so.... then goes on to say that jr is a coward for not fighting him, all while avoiding the top rated fighters by the ring....so, pretty much doing what he accused jr of doing..... jr finally stands up to arum, and tells him he's not signing the extension unless they promise him sergio.....thanks to jr, sergio is getting put in the spotlight that most fighters can only dream of....... SHOULDN'T SERGIO BE THANKFUL FOR JR :huh
In all fairness Jr didn't fight any of the guys you listed either. Don't know if agree that Lee is tougher than Macklin also. Just my opinion though....
sergio was crying that no one would fight him...reason why he took on lesser comp.....lies, there were other guys that wanted a piece of his ass (probably a bit homo)
Martinez fought Pavlik and Williams One after the other . He ain't ducking nobody. If he was he would have stayed away from Chavez.
I agree. When Pirog offered him a couple of mil to fight in Russia, I thought he would jump at the opportunity. Don't know why he didn't (dudes fought abroad his entire life), but I attribute it to very poor management. I think Martinez would fight anyone, but he was going hard for the little guys at welterweight.
Equal money to fight easier competition. Easy choice for Sergio. All fighters who reach a certain level make the same call. Just the reality. If Pirog stayed over here and fought a few more times and generated real public interest then the fight would have happened. Seems like GGG has realized this and is making sacrifices on his end to try and make it happen.
So that's why DiBella priced Martinez out and tried to get 5 mill for the fight? Martinez was already being offered a career high purse. As much as he made fighting both Macklin and Barker. It don't add up.
Who did Chavez fight that wasn't a "Eurobum" and ranked by RING? Don't say Rubio; he was not ranked by RING. Macklin was robbed against Sturm and is better than anyone on Jr's resume. The only decent win on Jr's resume in accordance with RING is Zbik, who he was lucky - well I guess not that lucky since WBC is corrupt - to get a decision against. Martinez wanted to fight Zbik, but HBO refused, causing him to fight Dzin. Zbik was also horribly beaten by Sturm, who had suffered an embarrassing beating at the hands of Macklin 2 fights prior.
