No, I'm validating that there were so many positives about the offer at the time, that not taking the fight or even negotiating in good faith was a duck. Counter offering with a request for 6 million, isn't good faith. What fans? Seriously.
And where is Pirog again? What has he done lately? If Martinez is fighting "bums" in Barker and Macklin who has Pirog fought at MW better than those bums?
atsch No, because with the PPV percentage, he could make close to 3 mill, plus a victory against Chavez Jr actually DOES something for Martinez's notoriety. Macklin did not.
Literally the only positive was the money, which again is undermined by the lack of TV coverage. The belt is worthless and you haven't offered one other reason. Gee I dunno, the people most likely to purchase a PPV with Martinez as a B-side in the US. But surely if the problem is not enough people know who you are as a fighter, the solution is to make sure even fewer of them have the chance to actually watch your next fight.
Fighting in the US DOES something for Martinez's notoriety as well, and I would contend is more important than merely racking up a trinket in a bout no one watches. Merely maximizing short-term gains, when doing so means you give up a date for further exposure in the US and have to agree to all of the challenger's terms (thereby limiting or at least delaying long-term name value), is not a route any boxing promoter would prefer to take.
That's the only reason that matters. Martinez is obviously not after legacy. He's after money. So if you can prove he's not, then you'll invalidate my point. But if you can't, him turning down 3 million then countering with 6 mill ( six times more than he had made up to that date), while constantly trying to chase big money fights with other opponents, looks and quacks like a duck.
Zbik, Rubio and Lee and better the Macklin, Dzindiruk and Barker??? Freddy seriously you are smarter then that stop the stupidity. Oh and no one is ducking Priog he is hiding in Russia and is out of the picture at middleweight because of his antics. And Sturm? That's funny.atsch
The only one doing the nuthugging is you. You put Pirog on a pedalstal like if Pirog has done a lot at MW. You didn't answer my question, who has Pirog fought that are better than the "Euro bums" in Barker and Macklin?
Sergio looked overall unimpressive in a fight with a little known Macklin (don't let all the fake irish-americans in the crowd fool you). Just fighting in the US isn't enough, you're putting way too much value in it, especially when the opponent is a relative unknown to the general public.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=wgH6edQO82k&list=UUI-Oq7oFGakzSzHFlTtsUsQ Dibella said the money Sergio made vs Macklin was just as good then if he went to Russia to fight Pirog.
Well for one thing he's already loaded from investments outside of boxing (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/17/s...victim-to-boxing-champion.html?pagewanted=all). I'm sure you'll say that he should be fighting Pirog for legacy then, legacy-enhancement in this case being fighting against a guy on his home turf who won a belt stripped from Martinez for no particular reason and who's never actually fought a top 10 middleweight. Once again though, you're myopically focusing on short-term income maximization without any regard whatsoever for the unfavorable circumstances required for that fight or how taking it would affect his long-term growth potential.
