Why did Showtime prefer Glen Johnson to Bute for the "Super" "Six"?

Well I honestly think if Bute was interested to join, he'd have been allowed.

For Bute's sake, let's hope he wasn't invited to take on Green for a place in the semis for a decent price!

If it turns out that he was invited and that Showtime made a fairly good offer, imagine the scandal it would cause! Bute would lose half of his fans!

Instead of fighting Mendy, Stieglitz and Sartison, Bute could have been facing Green (OK, not really better)... but then he'd have a chance of fighting two very good opponents!

I seriously dare Ken Hershman to say Bute priced himself out !

They didn't want him there at all !!!

This tournament was always meant to see the rise of a new young American star in boxing, along with the Euro boys that Sauerland Promotions accepted.

    Quite simple...

They are building up Ward and don't want him to lose.

True, but the tournament has lost most of its credibility in the meantime...

Adding Bute at this stage would have given it more credibility than it ever had!

So why would Showtime pay Bute $2m a fight for the next three fights to fight C+ level fighters with a view to him taking on the winner of the tournament then?

    Yep. Showtime can't afford him.

Also, does Bute have a contract with HBO?

Because nobody currently in the tournament would even be remotely competitive against Bute. It would be embarrassing.

Yeah Showtime is creating the next American superstar, considering Showtime is about to give Bute 2 million per fight which is more than Ward is getting and the guy gets to fight the winner without even going through the grinder like Ward.

They want Ward to win and gain popularity of this tournament and hopefully make him americas golden boy so showtime can have a top fighter on their books.

In the future they may get Bute and Ward in the ring on a PPV if they can build the two up to the common public.

I thought it might have been because bute is signed to another network but have been told thats not the case.

I'm not buying that... the average dumb american doesn't watch boxing and doesn't know Ward or Green from Adam...
