Why did Showtime prefer Glen Johnson to Bute for the "Super" "Six"?

Bute already has a home market developed and probably wouldn't want to sign a restricting contract with Showtime when he can already just fight the winner at the end of it all.

Showtime was very clear from the start to have 3 Americans vs 3 Europeans, which obviously has not been the best thing. In truth Taylor, should have never been in it, and maybe Andrade instead, and certainly Lucian. It is a real shame b/c I would love to see him fight AA/Froch and Ward sooner rather than later.

Since Showtime clearly are interested by Bute, and since Bute isn't in and Johnson is, the question is: did Bute say NO to Showtime when offered the chance to fight Green for a semi-final stage? Why would he do that? Too little money from Showtime? Well, they're already prepared to offer him $2m per fight for three fights to fight C+ level fighters... and Bute isn't used to making that kind of money anyway!...

...so if it's not because Bute asked for too much money, why? Was Bute offered good money but still decided to pass? Why? And if that isn't the case, why would Showtime not want Bute in, if they could afford him? Why pay him $2m to be outside a tournament badly in need of legitimacy when they could pay him $2m to be in it and to prop it up?

    :huh

Something is dodgy here... even with Bute or with Showtime...

    ...we need answers...

    Because
Froch has fought Kessler and Dirrell and was suppose to fight Abraham for a place in the Semifinals
Abraham has fought Taylor , Dirrell and is going to fight against Froch
Ward would probably preferred not to fight the other main guy at 168 for his WBA belt even if he was already qualified.

Froch & Abraham have been to war and their heading for another. How do you think they will feel at the hearing of the news that Bute needs a KO(at that time when Dirrell was still in and Johnson wasn't invited) against
Allan "the ****" Green to get in the semifinals and 1 of them was getting eliminated?

So you're saying that Showtime backed down under pressure from the promoters, right? I'm not buying that.... Showtime has the means to make the show go on if people fall out - and they have! They could have got Bute in!

I think you're over analyzing at this point. SHOWTIME realizes that their tournament has lost a lot of its luster with all the drop outs and even though the original goal was to allow an American Super Middleweight the chance to be crowned, they now can't deny that fans want Bute in that thing.

They are running out of options to keep some credibility claiming the winner is the best at 168lbs, hence their decision to bring one of the top dogs on board...even if he's not American !

They know the money is there and they probably want that Montreal money that comes with Bute.

Bute is also running out of options and they truly want to face the best, therefore it's a perfect match and should be confirmed in the next few days, unless guys in the Super 6 don't agree to face Bute for some odd reason !!

I'm saying that showtime had enough problems and didn't need to create more tension in there. Like the tension there where from the venues. And with all the advantages Wards promoter has gotten for him do you really think he would've agree with that.

something like this, too late to bring in a top 3 SMW, all replacements are just that worse than the originals.

how can you bring in a replacement who is better than the guy he replaces?

And those means that Showtime had couldn't make Dirrell to fight Ward. Showtime was hanging by a very thin thread. They didn't need any more problems to be solve like the venue of Bute v Ward. And to keep the tournament going of course they had to ask the fighters involved their opinion, and to take it under consideration

Inviting Bute to fight Green was like giving him an wiled card into the semifinals. All the other guys will feel more comfortable fighting the winner of Green v Johnson then Bute into semis.

Other answer could be that they just thought at Bute as an HBO fighter and they didn't even take the possibility under consideration.

And you think if they've asked Bute they wouldn't make that public like they did with Bika? When he refused. Or nobody will find out on sources. Dan Rafael is pretty good at finding this things out.

And what you have to remember is that Showtime has come with Johnson very very quick. Witch means he was the first who has been invited.
